I'll come back to cash in hand work.

They can't access the state government money without a payslip, they have to keep working.

Even the people they can't trace the cases back to will be because of cash in hand

In Part II of this thread I suggested that cash in hand work was a lot to blame for the outbreaks.

Have a look at Adelaide Royal Flush

Was the pizza shop a "criminal orginsation"?

Cash in hand work is rampant everywhere.

Victoria has marked 22 days with no new cases of COVID-19 and zero virus-related deaths today... There is now only one active case remaining in the state, who is making "a slow but steady recovery" Victoria's Health Minister, Martin Foley, said today.

=====

Victoria's health minister has promised "the most rigorous hotel quarantine system in the nation" as the state gears up for the arrival of international travellers in December.

Mr Foley would not provide specific details on how the new system would run, however he assured Victorians the government had learnt from the mistakes made during the last hotel quarantine disaster. "We're not going to leave anything to chance. The government has learned, the community has learned along the way ... and we will be keeping Victorian's safe through the most rigorous hotel quarantine system the nation has in place," he said.

I think they've decided to combine a new security firm & the army... They're bringing in:

Hotel quarantine for me in Brisbane has been police & army. Just had my first COVID-19 test (day 4) & then another one on day 10. We don’t have the door key to our rooms so are reliant on police/army to let us out for scheduled fresh air breaks. If we leave the room without escort then we cannot get back in, meaning we are sprung. No private security guards as fast as I can tell.

It sounds hard to live with but reassuring from the outside.

I saw someone say the other day that we don’t blame health workers for catching COVID despite all the precautions, and we should equally not blame people working in quarantine sites. It’s very infectious and there is always a chance you’ll get it when you spend a lot of time where people have it. The stupid risk is not making sure the system supports people who work in those environments so they don’t have to work additional jobs as well, and their level of exposure to the wider community is lower than the average.

My sister is a nurse and has told me that health workers are actually quite critical of health facilities where infection spread among staff. Her view is that effective infection control is possible if you have the right equipment and procedures are followed strictly at all times. For example, she says the staff at her hospital where they have not had a single staff transmission were highly critical of Frankston where they had a big cluster.
She would agree that blaming cleaners and security guards is pointless as there should be much better levels of training and supervision.

I knew all those business lobby groups would win out, fancy making people return to an office setting 3 and a half weeks before Christmas. Surely could have held that off until after the festive season. 25% is nonsense no employer is going to follow that.

Not sure how that is a win for business lobby groups. It is important we get back to normal as quickly as is safely possible. The timing of Christmas is irrelevant.

Offices always have a shut down period for a few weeks over Xmas/New Years so they will be closing up again anyway.

Its a massive win for business lobby groups, they could care less about the office, what they want is people doing Christmas shopping in the cbd and spending money on coffees and lunches, that’s the only motivation for this move. The office is irrelevant, Christmas and wider economic interests is what it’s about.

Yeah? Fancy being concerned about economic loss after a shutdown that cost the state $200 million in lost economic output and at least 1,400 people their jobs every day. You seem to be advocating for unnecessarily doing further and continued damage to our economy.

Can I ask what you do for a living? I can only assume you are coming from the position of someone who had no impact from the shutdown. No skin in the game. There are no doubt multiple CBD businesses for whom getting a few people back in offices or getting some Christmas shoppers into the precinct will be the difference between surviving and going under taking more jobs out of the system on the way.

So what if offices have shutdowns over Christmas? That is their choice whether they do that or not not the Government.

This is about a return to normal life. I can't see why anyone would be against that.
