We are all surprised?

Hasn't LAPD's James Carter not taught us anything?

Welcome to his theory of criminal investigation: "follow the rich white man. Behind every crime there is a rich white man waiting for his cut."
Now in this case, we know who the rich white man is and in fact there are two of them- Paul Little and Mike Fitzpatrick. These two have been way too cool in all this saga.

"Now lemme tell you somethin', when people start shootin', white people ain't that cool. They either runnin' around hidin' behind tables or screaming like, "AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!"

Fitzpatrick is a big snake. I don't trust that man one bit.

Yeah, something about this bloke makes him seem untrustworthy ... can't put my finger on it ;)

I don't think the AFL has done anything wrong in this instance, they negotiated terms for the best of the code, people are complaining because they are not told everything, that's the trouble in today's world everyone craves information. If this went to court and they negotiated a plea, that wouldn't come out into the media

Hate it or Love it, had the matter gone to court, the AFL may not have had enough evidence to enforce some of these penalties. Not to mention a court case could have proved a nightmare for PR / Sponsors etc.
Look at Hird, he was forced by the Bombers to take the 12 month hit, because they didn't want it playing out in court and damage the brand anymore than it had.

You mean like F.I.F.A & their allocation of world cups?
Or Football teams spending more than they earn or sneaking players in with dodgy visas?

I think he is talking about leagues like Italian Football League and model sides like Juventus

our league is un-professional when you're comparing to the big european leagues. it's a f**king joke.

Well I would not go that far. There are Soccer Leagues over there that have been Corrupt.

Just look at Juventus few years back in the there Top League

Let's forget the italians for a moment, lol what about the EPL, other than Howard webb helping my team with penalties they're a professional league and handle matters effectively

Well I don't really follow how the Leagues are Run Over There.

As it's the Same Teams up the Top Every Year. No Equalisation like in the AFL

yeah you're pretty much sport on with that, other than the one team that climbs up each year it really is pretty much the same

Don't you mean "Spot On";)

Makes it a Pretty Boring League:rolleyes:

Wouldn't handing out the most sever penalty to Hird, Essendon & Co, actually be good for the game, by acting as a deterrent to anyone foolish enough to think they can get away with cheating? So long as clubs can come up with a few names to push under the bus, there is no real deterrent. All this BS about Essendon not competing in 2014 being bad for the sport, sponsors, etc, too bad. You cheat, you cop it on the chin. Simple (or at least it is from my ivory tower).

It is hard to see AD surviving for much longer. Can Ed be AFL CEO and Collingwood president at the same time?

Why not? In pretty sure Berlusconi was the head of the Italian FA, AC Milan AND president of the country at the same time..... He is also in jail right now for having orgies with under aged girls

Parties involved in litigation endeavour to negotiate an agreed outcome almost 100% of the time

This is a non story

I am a lawyer regularly involved in commercial settlements and this is correct. It is beneficial to give the impression that you are amenable to a negotiated outcome even if it is a facade and you are not. It means you're less likely to be smacked with an enormous costs order, which can happen even if you win.

AD's problem is that he has acted like an absolute fool. Of course there was dialogue. Essendon's representatives would have been negligent if they made no attempt to begin discussions. It would have been unreasonable of the AFL not to have at least listened. The denials he made were unnecessary and looked to me like the desperate efforts of a worried man.
