I don't know what I would buy if there was a Costco over here. I stopped buying bread altogether from supermarkets (a bonus being their bread isn't much chop) since they insist on doing 'two loaves for $5, one for $4.50' deals. I struggle to finish one loaf before it goes mouldy, I don't need two. Likewise milk, juice etc. I just don't need giant quantities of. Meat I could freeze, but I only have so much freezer space and if I've got 20kg of chops and one ice cube tray that's not a particularly efficient use of my freezer.

I reckon I'd buy toilet rolls in the most ridiculous quantity they had. 10c a roll if I buy 1,000? Deal! I'd say my digestive system is about standard so I have no use for that many, but it's not like they spoil and I could turn my house into a toilet roll fort. I already stack the remainder of any new packet into a pyramid on the shelf above the loo, so a fort seems the logical next step.

ever heard of a freezer?

They haven't had it for a while but about 6 months ago I bought a big chunk of pork and cut it into steaks. Got 25 out of it. From memory it was only about $30. Went into the freezer where it was consumed over the course of 2 or 3 months

Having a freezer beautifully compliments my membership

Perth used to have something similar to this called FAL. We used my mate's mum's card on the last day if year 12 to purchase 20 cartons of eggs and cover the school and the teacher's cars.

Being a Ringwood lad I assumed this place was a bit like Walmart and treated their employees like trash etc.

Did a bit of research, and they're actually one of the best and most moral employers around. They support unionism, pay well above minimum wage and offer free healthcare. They don't even employ PR people.

I'm a fan now. Probably won't shop there cause it isn't viable for me, but I'm happy that any decent employer wants to move into Australia.

Spot on. Sooner or later Costco will hit a point in their life cycle where the best thing for them will be to hire very good executive from outside. And they're not gonna get that with that pay.

The right thing to do for the business would be to pay the money, and I'm sure they will.

You say that, but one of the huge advantages of having a happy workforce is people stay with the company. It actually makes promoting from within a much cheaper option.

If Costco can continue to make huge profits and promote from within, they probably won't ever have to source outside CEO's. It becomes like a family/community, where everyone recognises that its better to work together than to rely on outside "expertise".

Anyway, kudos to their philosophy. The results quite rightly speak for themselves right now.

I don't have a card but while I was shopping around for TV's, they were selling a model for $1899 that ranged from 2200 up at JB, Good Guys and Harvey Norman. They also sold other models for identical prices to these stores, so the bargains are there but aren't across the board.

Oh yeah? What of it?

I'm a member, and drop in occasionally during an extended lunch break to pick up little things. They often have amazing prices on Carmens muesli bars, and the giant tub of Jelly Bellys is so hard to resist...

It is commonly referred to as Ringhole by its citizens.

The company I work for has an office in Ringwood. As I grew up in Melbourne I've been there a fair few times as well.

Good old Ringhole.:thumbsu:
