Am I the only one worried about Trent being poached by the Gold Coast? It looks like Tippet has signed up for the Crows and the list of players likely to be targeted is diminishing. As this list gets smaller the more they will chuck at players such as Cotchin.

If we were to lose a player of his quality it would be a huge setback for the club. So do you think we can hold onto Trent or will the offer be to good to refuse?

They'll be targetting him but in all honesty Cotchin is no superstar, he is still a young kid with a lot of potential, can't see GC chasing him at all.

yer im a little worried to but dont think cotchin will want to leave his hometown and away from his family, if he did tho , dont be get compensation?

I can't see him going, but if he does go we'll probably get pick 2 in return in a very very good draft, so it's not a worry.

So who are they targeting? They will consider alot of players and Cotchin is said by many as the most exciting young mid in the game. Go check out the poll on polls board. I'm not talking about Cotchin being a marquee player or being the face of their club, but they will need around 30 players and if Cotchin isn't considered it would be irresponsible.

I wouldn't be crying into my weet-bix if he was poached, we'd get fair compensation.....Essendon were compensated when they traded Todd Ridley to Freo and chose a kid by the name of Matthew Lloyd.

Getting fair compensation is all well and good, but i'd much rather have a player that has proven over two injury riddled seasons, that he has what it takes to be a star of the game.

They may target a lot of players, but history suggests they won't get anywhere near the players that are being talked about. They could throw $10m at Ablett and he's still not going to leave Geelong. No player wants to be seen as a mercenary. New clubs may have learnt from the Brisbane Bears fiasco, but the fact is they're only likely to get players who are disgruntled at their current club and maybe the odd one who gets sucked in by the dollars. If Richmond are concerned about Cotchin, then the onus is on them to look after him. If they do that then he won't want to leave.

Good post mate. From what I hear Trent is very happy at Richmond and is close to alot of the boys. Hopefully the club can hold onto him.

wonder how keen they are on him seeing as he's yet to put in a full season - does that make him look injury-prone?
Im, looking forward to seeing him play 22 games in a row!

Would have to be tempting to any footballer to get big bucks & play footy on the GC for a living, but yeah, hopefully the majority of GC targets stay with their clubs.
Be bloody hilarious to see how they fare if they couldn't attract any marquee players.

Who would give us pick 2 for a broken down "potential star"? They would be better to target someone like Rich who has shown he can perform and will be out of contract at the end of next season.

I would be more concerned with retaining Nahas, Vickery or Riewoldt than Cotchin.

of course we want to hold onto him, but at the same time there is no point worrying because we know we will be compensted in the unlikely event that 1. the gold coast chase him and 2. he is interested in joining them

fingers crossed he can get his body right in the next couple of years

I wouldn't be too worried guys.
I suggest you pick up a copy of Emma Quayle's book The Draft, and pay particular notice of when the Judd trade went through, and then West Coast had #3, and were looking very hard at Trent. He didn't want to leave Melbourne, and was hoping that either Carlton or Richmond would pick him up.

Words can't describe how dumb that post is.

They'll get someone. In every team of loyal players there is bound to be a judd(as) ;)

So many people. So few clues.

just so you guys know...

if the GC team take cotchin as an out of contract player at the end of 2010, which they are entitled to 1 player from everyclub we afl has said the club will get compensated but the best pick you can possible get in return is a 2nd rounder

its so ****en shit, and someone asked the question to the afl, "so if the GC were to poach riewoldt (this was before he re-signed with the saints) the best the saints could get is a 2nd rounder from him" and the afl said yes

so the best pick we could possible get for cotchin is probably pick 17-20 or something like that

we need to keep him

That is amazing :(

If we can't afford to pay cotch more than the gold coast would we must be seriously overpaying some absolute duds. We only have about 15 players worthy of more than 200,000 a year

Yeah, that's not true.
