I just read in the 'most over-rated player at your club' thread a richmond supporter say 'mark coughlan'. I am the only person who finds this one of the more outrageous comments of recent times?

For mine (when fit) Coughlan, Brown and Simmonds are far and away our best players.

Further in relation to another thread which talked of our lack of match winners, these three are our match winners and with the exclusion of an 'on-song' richoman and perhaps Polak, are 10 times more important than any other player on our list.

Does anyone else think along these lines?

When was the last time as our 'elite' midfielder he tore a game apart the way a Judd, Kerr or even Foley does?

Our whole midfield has been over-rated for some time.

Pretty disappointing. This guy tried so hard when he came back from OP. Hes a great in and under player. May night take huge marks or kick big bombs, but hes a good bloke. I just hope he gets back to be honast. Seems like an eternity since we've seen Cogs.

EDIT: Not every midfielder has to be a matchwinner Magic. Scott West isn't but hes brownlow material and has been for a while.

Anyway, I want this club to be the best.
I want us to have an elite midfield.

Judd, Kerr, Cousins etc.

Voss, Black, Lappin etc.

Coughlan is not the player to win us a premiership.
Whilst not a bad extractor, his kicking is highly suspect and he is injury prone.
This isn't about him trying hard or being a good bloke which I don't doubt.
It's about aiming to be the best and not putting mediocrity on pedestals.
Cogs has not been the player we need to take us to the next level for some time. He is over-rated IMO.

Darcy had two knee reco's in a row,he seems to be ok now.

I guess the good thing for Cogs is that he's a bit younger than darcy so the body should still be fine. I've just got huge doubts on him getting back to his best. First things first, no more showers. He can stink up the place so no one will go near him to tackle him.

I think he's orginal knee reco wasn't done properly or weak and that might have contributed to him slipping in the shower.

I think Paris Hilton is while not ugly the most over-rated looking person probably ever.

The point is we have so many players on our list so much more over-rated than Coughlan who has had OP and two knee recos. Krak is IMO top 5 worst players running around atm yet he regularly pulls on a richmond jumper. He is just one of several over-rated hacks still on Richmond's list.

Further I do think Coughlan would have been and (doubtful but hopefully) still can be top five mids in the comp.

Foley has never been tagged and so is yet to prove he is the god that many posters worship.

With all due respect but I believe a lot of supporters have forgotten how good Coughlan is. After winning our B+F (and yes he was better than Foley, stupid question) he had OP for ages and struggled for form similar to Luke Ball is now. Then the 2 knees.

Seeing him underperform while playing injured before a long stint on the sidelines has tainted your memories.

Actually I can show you a thread where at the end of Chris Judd's 2nd year (right before winning a Brownlow) that the general football fans were ranking a young Mark Coughlan in the same league, even higher. Naturally Judd went on to improve even more but it must not be forgotten that he was once rated as an elite midfielder and one of the absolute peak young prospects in the AFL, let alone at Richmond.

Short memories some of us have, I'm disappointed in the lack of respect Mark Coughlan gets as he was a Brownlow worthy player ibefore he got injured. I hope he can overcome the odds and come back in good shape, but to be elite once again would be a little out of the ordinary.
