Hope someone can help.

Somehow was watching Rage last Sat night. At 11pm an old Countdown appeared from Feb 1981. Wet myself laughing reminiscing: The Swingers were "Counting the beat". Adam Ant was the next BIG thing. Air Supply were big (now there is a band I don't miss at all). Slim Dusty was "Having a beer with Duncan" & Molly had god awful fashion sense.

Was wondering - is this a regular thing?. Have plenty of ex-mulleted friends + wives etc who would love a regular dose of this.

Cheers,

Fatty

Does anyone remember the Models doing "Atlantic Romantic" on countdown back in 1981??

I'd love to which episode that was on if it indeed did happen.

The Rage website is updated on Friday afternoons, with playlists for the coming weekend. Over summer, they include old episodes of Countdown, Rock Arena & Recovery. They also have a section, where you can request clips.

Don't remember that one! That would be awesome to see.
Unusual also as it wasn't a single. I remember seeing the filmclip to "Two Cabs to the Toucan" on Nightmoves in 79 or early 80.

I just remember this band doing a "Countdown" performance with a silhouette of a man playing the sax in the top window of a building. It spun me out as a six year old and I was always of the opinion that it was Atlantic Romantic by the Models when I heard the song on JJJ in 1993. When I heard it on the J's I thought THAT'S THE SONG with the sax man in the window from Countdown 81. (not that the song has any sax in it)

I really hope Countdown play that episode in the coming weeks so I can confirm the song as Atlantic Romantic.

I've also seen the two cabs film clip. I think the models did a few clips from that excellent Cut Lunch EP.

But this one was definitely a "Countdown" performance.

cheers

There was a Countdown episode in '81 that was devoted to the Cut Lunch short film/rockumentary which consisted of videos of each song (most were filmed at Essendon Airport I think) mixed with the band members doing a vox pop in the city on the topic of "Do you eat a cut lunch?". Cutting edge stuff at the time, I'm sure.

Two Cabs To The Toucan was a great little tune, but can someone please help me out with the lyrics? I couldn't understand them at all.

Yeah I saw that one on Rage a couple of years ago.

What about "Have you seen the Man 'O Action?"

Love the song unfaithful to the core and the film clip.

Yes there has certainly been some sheet on those recent Countdown's played on Rage. The one with Mark Holden hosting was pitiful, but it's good to have a laugh and reminisce.

Molly's hosting is legendarily crud.

How on earth has Molly lasted so long?
Some of the rubbish he had on that show then told us to "do yourself a favour " and by some crap album from a crap one hit wonder band.
His interviews are the worst I've ever seen. He spends more time asking the question then the person does answering. He will go on and on and blow smoke up their ass then ask either a yes or no answer question or one in which he has already answered himself.

Classic Countdown episodes include one in which Iggy Pop is on speed or some other form of mind altering substance which has him jumping all over the stage while Molly is trying to interview him. Molly continually asks him to settle down but Iggy is in another world.
There is also a funny one where Molly is so high or drunk or both that he can hardly make a sentance an he has a lot of trouble keeping his eyes open.
The Prince Charles one was a classic too. Molly was so nervous he kept stuffing up his lines. Charles had to tell him to take a drink and relax.
