Hypothetically the PSD comes around and Ben Cousins has nominated and is still eligible at our pick do you call out his name? I think it would be worth a crack as long as we have interviewed him and decided if he is fixed or not.

He could really help our midfield development as players not humans and it would help us have that one last tilt at finals and an unexpected prem for the great Richoman.

i would surely call out his name. He is a great player but with a few issues, but look were he was living you could prob buy that stuff on the shelf at a supermarket over there. By the look of it he is really working hard to get back to play footy in the afl again and could be a great pick up for us.

NO! He would wreck us. I'm very strong on the Cousins matter. If we picked him up....I don't know what I would do.

depends on who is left out of the kids that has misses out,
say trengove doesnt get picked up due to his recent knee injury
or if a warnock or seaby is available the answer would be no.

but if there is noyhing that is of any quality he may be worth the punt for 2-3 years then the answer would be yes.

If he was
1. Mentally stable
2. Physically fit (supposedly he's still in mint condition)

Ofcourse you'd ____ing take him!

He's an amazing on field leader. I still remember when he got stripped of the captaincy and Juddy took over. At the end of the Grand Final he was the one the players rallied behind and he was the one that pumped the Cup in the air.

Bring Ben Cousins to Richmond and watch him LEAD our young stars to greater heights.

I trust our players to be responsible. In fact, we have recruited with a strong emphasis towards getting mature and focused people to the club.

Even if Ben was still playing up in the off-season, I would still take him.

4 years of Cousins running around with Deledio, Foley, Cotchin, Tambling, Coughlan, Connors, Edwards, Polo, White, etc is a recipe for success!

I've been friends with people who were drug users before, did they hold me down and force me into destroying my life?! It is ridiculous to think it happens like that. I've never even considered thinking about it!

The ONLY bad thing about Cousins is the bad press it would bring if he isn't perceived as "squeeky clean".

The on and off field benefits of this great, great leader of a man (who actually IS a champion player too, unlike Kane Johnson who is just a great leader) far outweight any 'negative consequences'. Would you turn down Buddy too? He brings just as many perceived consequences.

Tambling running alongside Cousins all pre-season would make Tambling a better player. Foley could learn a thing or two off him! Deledio would be freed up even more. Cotchin unstoppable.

Richo plays on expecting success.

I would consider a 2nd Round Pick in the ND for him depending on draft depth.

theres no way we could even consider giving up a 2nd round pick for a 30 yo.
5th round or psd

How did the Carey experiment go again for Adelaide? And he was suuposedly the greatest player of all time. NOT WORTH THE RISK! Cousins is a virus.

Cousins could play three or four more years. He is in mint condition. Hasn't had a history of injuries. Only one i can think of was the hamstring in his last year. He would definately bring more out of the group. He could finish his career playing more as a forward to preserve him. If he's fine and ready to go - take him.

I LIKE IT!!!!!!

people he would need to really pull out stops to get ready to play footy for say next year or the year after
at which time the 16 afl clubs wouldnt want him for the bad press and worry through having to look after and "monitor" him...despite what ever player he was
im all for giving guys 2nd chances...but he's used them up at West Coast

so then cousins only options would be a mercenary player for the new expansion clubs when they arrive....and they wouldnt want him for the simple fact that it would cause real bad press for the club and they would be cut up by the "rugby friendly media"..and thats the last thing they'd want...cos all they know cousins is as "cousins the drug taker" not "cousins the player"
and that scenario is if he is clean....its still up in the air whether he will be

cousins will never play afl footy again...and if he does its a very bold move by any club

if he ever got down to punt rd i think id have to eat my scarf

You make some good points Tucker. Best case scenario would be getting him cheap and on a one year deal 'cos man can he play.(If he stuffs up, we toss him over to The Royal). I reckon he'll play AFL again 'cos he doesn't care what people think and clubs just want to win a flag no matter what. He'll be after good coin so most likely club would be Coll I reckon. You're right in saying the expansion clubs won't want him.

If we get the chance we should take him.
He is a champion and we are in the business of winning games and flags.
Let the PR people put whatever spin they want on it.

I honestly think he would bring more memberships, media coverage and success and therefore more dollars through the door at punt rd than anything anyway.

I'm not convinced that much of his performance wasn't drug induced. He could have been training harder because he was on drugs.

Will be the most interesting part of the off season for sure. The big question is, what draft is he in? I don't think its PSD because he was deregistered so he's out of the system. In the National Draft, I think he'll go somewhere late in round 1 or 2. Last year, if WCE had said to the Tigers, we'll swap you Ben Cousins for your second round pick? You would have taken it in a second. For your first round pick (ie Cotch), maybe not. Our first round pick this year will be 6 or 7 so that's still probably too much to give up for a 30 yo.

I think it will get to about pick 15 or 16 then whoever doesn't quite win the flag this year (say the Bulldogs or the Pies) will pick him up. They'd be mad not to because he would get you over the line. Would love to him go to the Hawks, he can hit the town with Buddy!

Anyway, I would pick him just to run next to our mids during preseasons and teach them what it means to be AFL 'dominant midfielder' fit. The guy is unbelievable - can not remember seeing anyone ever run so hard on a footy field. Can you imagine Lids and Cotch running around with that tank??

Cousins won't fix the pain we're currently experiencing in the midfield. There is no quick fix, he'll bring bad press and hold off a youngster from developing.

We'd be better off looking at a 24 year old disgruntled gun midfielder from the same club as Ben.
