Swansea, Wizards
El Segundo and Racing the Win the favourites and i tell you what..not to convinced on El after it's last run...i don't care if it was fit or not.

Excites is a good chance imo and so is Miss Finland as the journey suits both.

What do you all reckon?

I'm not so sure if the journey suits Miss Finland. I wanna know if Grey Swallow is an on-pacer or a swooper?

From the couple of races ive seen of his on youtube, he races just off the pace. Has a fair turn of foot, but can also fight as he did in the Tattersalls Cup (g1) - the Arc winner joined him at the 200 but he kicked and won by a length again. Looks to be a pretty genuine racehorse, will be extremely hard to beat.

I'll be laying Miss Finland, can I say that???
Not convinced she'd win at 2000m against older horses, let alone a Cox Plate.

It takes a freak 3yo to win a Cox Plate or a very weak year.
3yo filly,Im old enough to have seen Surround & take it from me,Surround
would have carried her.

I cant even remember the last 3yo filly to run in the race.
This may not look that strong but I'll be stunned if she weighs in

It is still early in the week. Fields of Omagh's last run caught my eye. Good value at $21. Also been hearing mutterrings from the Danny O'Brien camp about Honor in War. Might put a small speckie on him early on with odds at 101/26 e/w.

A mate went down to the Valley on Sat morning and had a look at the runs of ES and RTW.

Apparently, ES ran the last 400 in 23 and the last 200 in 10.9.

My mate had a chat to the clocker and said based on that performance, ES should bolt in.

Take form that what you will.

El ran faster because Gauci and Little gave him a harder workout because they don't want him to be underdone on Sat like he was in the Yalumba when he had a light preperation.

Yalumba runners Cox Plate odds:

1st - Casual Pass - $26
2nd - Pompeii Ruler - $13
3rd - El Segundo - $3.30
4th - Fields Of Omagh - $21

I know he wasn't right in that race and he will be right at the Valley, but i can't have El Segundo at those odds.

Im gonna back Miss Finalnd :thumbsu: .....something like 46kg's on her

Not as strong as a feild compared to other years...but will be like the rest of this Spring Carnival....VERY EVEN!

I agree it is very even.. With this in mind I think I will go for some value. The 46kgs is very appealing to me too, although I wont be underestimating both of Mick Price's horses.

Bit of a lottery for mine.

She is yet to run past the 1600, so obviously huge query over her. Not to mention the history against her, but im liking the 46KG's and the $9 odds. Plenty of other horses have question marks on them also.

For me Grey Swallow, Finland and RTW to fill the placings with LOTM at great odds.

El Segundo for mine from Lad of the Manor and Pompeii Ruler.

Only leaving out RTW as the track might not suit, reverse way of going and he's due for one poor run.

Grey Swallow is all class, top 3 certainty.

I agree - going on its wins in europe and the horses it raced against, the only doubt here is whether it handles the track. Many lengths better than anything in this.

Yeah. I'm worried about the track too. Seems to take a while to wind up which was suited on Irish tracks which have 800m long straights.

If all is well, including fitness and tracks suitability, it'll just win.

Going on the basis of his gallop at the Valley on Stutt night he seemed to handle it well. I wouldn't let that discourage you.

If any of you seriously want to back Miss Finland, pls PM me
Your money may as well go to a good cause.

Ill be laying her so happy to accomodate you.

I like miss finland at the weights. What odds do you think?
WFA is a relative scale. She is a three year old filly, she needs every kilo she can get. If it the WFA scale really helped 3YO fillies, more than one would have won the great race.

Whilst Miss Finland is a very very good filly she would have to be something special to win the Cox Plate. History shows how hard it is for a 3 year old to win the plate (apart from Savabeel, which wasn't a overly strong race that year) let alone a filly. Still is rock hard fit and has the David Hayes polish.

Racing To Win is a class horse who won't have any trouble with the Valley or the distance, John O'Shea has set him for this race all along and is going be hard to hold out. Brillant race record and with G. Boss on board, look out!

El Segundo looked flat as a tack last time, hence his brilliant work out at the Valley on Sat. He needed a hard hit out to round him off. Not sure if he will be able to run down Racing To Win if he gets a few lengths in front. Gauci isn't in the best of form either.

Grey Swallow in my opinion is no threat at all. A Cox Plate is alot different to running first up in a field of 6 on a 800m straight in Europe where they just canter along. Will run a good honest race, but suspect he will go better when he is produced next time.

Our Smoking Joe, Aqua D'more, Lad Of The Manor and Fields of Omagh all have rough chances.

I'm sticking with Racing To Win from Miss Finland with El Segundo 3rd.

Good luck folks and good punting!

P.S Did anyone see Gauci's ride on Rubijon? For the third start in a row he has murdered it  . Hoping Gauci gets the sack from it next start. Should pick up a nice race over the spring at good odds.

What he said.

People get sucked in with the 3 year olds every year.

Well i reckon she is as strong as a colt so she gets another 2kg's off.
