It was on the news tonight that Worsfold said Cox was going nowhere. I'm not surprised after looking at Seaby last week, who is still at least a year off physically.
I also wouldn't be suprised to see Cox spend more time as first ruck with Gardiner in the forward line. Gardiner is vastly under rated as a forward option.
Kicked 3.2 in the final, kicked goals against Freo who have pretty good KPP backs.
If Coxy can hold down the ruck for a majority next year, you'd have to be pretty happy having Mcdougall and Gardiner as the two big targets up front.

Maybe BUT we play so much better when Gardiner is fit and firing in the ruck...

Apparently the decision was based on the fact that Gardiner has never played a full season without an injury.

Troy Longmuir is apparently a "required player" at Freo also... almost all players are "required" until trade week rolls around and a deal "too good to pass up" is put on the table. Then it's, "thanks for the memories, but try not to let the door hit ya on the bum on the way out..."
not a troll, just pointing out that even though Worsfold says Cox isn't going anywhere doesn't really mean a lot.
Croad and T-Lo will be at Freo next year also, if you believe what they're saying at our club...

Only place T.Lo might go is WC in an typical dud for dud deal. Craod won't go anywhere because you'd have to pay to get rid of him. Either way, Freo would love to get rid of both.

Don't comapare those duds to Cox. If we trade, it would be next year when his value gets even higher and we might have some replacements.

I'm not comparing them to Cox, don't be so defensive.... trade week is coming up, everyone's fair game, even those who are supposedly "not going anywhere".
Don't automatically think that I'm having a go, or comparing our obviously more crap list ( ) just because I'm a Freo supporter.
It was just an example.
Doubt Freo would "Love to get rid of them both" - Croad maybe if they could find someone to take on his $$$, but why would they want to get rid of T-Lo who's a damn fine second stringer and provides depth??

I'd rather keep Cox, at 22 I suspect his best footy is still to come and having 2 good ruckmen is a massive boost for any team, especially when one of them Gardiner.

Yeah Seaby may be an option for the future, but what happens if he doesn't come through at AFL level and Gardiner goes down - big trouble.

At least we know Cox can compete with the majority of ruckmen in the league.

The point is that they're second string players. Cox isn't. We had Siera as our third ruck option this year (and he's retired). If Gardiner goes down, we'd have nobody without Cox. Coaches don't say a top line player for the team will stay, and then backstab at trade-week without the player himself agreeing.
Second string players don't get that respect because they 'are' second string.

So Cox is off the market? :(

So that means Seaby is on it! :)

with Cox ... and all ruckmen actually, they need plenty of time to hit there peak, and really, if we trade him now, i don't think we'll get nearly as good a deal as we would in a few seasons from now.

having said that, i want a KP defender, *cough* *Hay* *cough*.

Good news, I know a lot of WC supporters are raving about Seaby but Cox is still our best option after Gardiner in the ruck. He also kicked quite a few goals this season. A defeinte keeper IMO.

I'm just hoping that Worsfold accepts the deal I swiped with Sera:

Montagna for Cox + 2nd Rounder.

Love the Monty, but we need someone who can physically ruck.

make it Montagana and 1st rounder for Cox and you might have a deal.

We have no use for Montagna, while you guys have a NEED for Cox.

But either way, I'm starting to think it's better to keep Cox for a year and play with 3 ruckman in the team next year. Seaby as a FF, and spending limited time in the ruck, Gardiner as first ruck with Cox secondary ruckman and spending a bit of time at FF and on the CHF line.

Cox will only get better and we're in a position where we know Seaby can hold down a second ruck position, whilst spending the rest of the time as very tall FF who is hard to match up on, than Cox could be traded, with which we could get some very useful player(s) for him.

I'd rather not trade Cox just yet. I hear that Seabys not quite ready for AFL football yet and really if Gardiner goes down (which history tells us he will for atleast 5 matches) we dont have anyone who can go into the ruck and hold their own.
On Gardiner playing forward, I dont like it. I'd only use it as a last option really or maybe for 15 minutes here or there when he takes a break. We just look so much better when Gardiner is in the ruck. I think Cox should develop into the forward/ruck not Gardiner.

Cox is our best quality possible trade (and if you want quality, you usually have to pay for it). But if we can hang on to him and still build a Premiership side then that's great. I also think his value will be greater, not less, at the end of next year.

Rubbish.

I'd offer you that for Gardiner, not Cox.

High prices will only be reserved for Jamie Charman.

And we could snap up Matthew Allan for next to nothing as well.

Brooks and Knobel will be fully fit, Kosi can play 3rd ruck and Maguire to pinch hit.

Deal with someone who'll need a ruckman in 2004.

Montagna and a first round for Cox is pushing it I agree.

But don't get too cute, if we were to deal with someone needing a ruckman in 2004 the saints would be top of list.

But Cox is staying anyway ;)

Folks, don't mess with my Montagna + 2 round pick for Cox. It was a win/win for both clubs. I KNOW what I'm doing ;)

Maybe I am missing the point but why do we want Montagna anyway?

If it's just to wind up EFC and his saints cronies, I will retract and retreat immediately... ;)

Montagna isn't a bad player. We won't get a much better offer for Cox than that.
