In his press conference he said when pushed to say something about the umps that he will look after what we do first,in other words no point worrying about the umps cause you cant do anything about them just get on with playing footy. Now if the crowd takes the same stance..................

That was his public view at the press conference given the current AFL rules. However, he did encourage the press to give their views on the umpiring, given he couldn't.

Not true, Kane.

Craig was passionate, even angry, about this point.
"If we play perfect football and the umpires then dictate the result, that's when I will say something."

Until the players were perfect, he was content for the press to whinge about the umpires as much as they liked... if that's what they wanted to do.

In no sense could you construe that he was encouraging the press to do a bit of umpire-bashing. The umpiring competency question was simply not on his radar... it was only on the press's radar. At the press conference he simply flicked the question back... and in a very intelligent way, too.

I admired him for that. We all remember Choko taking an undignified and unprofessional swipe at the umpiring fraternity a few weeks back.

To be honest, you guys din't have that bad a deal with the Umps, compared to other teams tis round.Just look at Port and Collingwood, absolutlety appalling and quizical decisions going the Pies way.

The thing Craig would be really worried about was the fadeout, you should have won by over 10 goals.Thats amajor concern for you coaches and players.

I agree something should be done about the umpiring, but it won't as Anderson and Demitriou think als fine with the umpring and new reporting and tribunal system.

At the game I thought the umpiring was appalling, but I'd have to watch the reply in a more controlled and calm environment before I can decide for certain.

In any case I don't think there's too much point in getting upset about it, sometimes you just get those games when all the bad decisions seem to go against you.

The fact that we let Freo back in the game was a much bigger concern. Our boys obviously panicked in the last quarter. We let blokes like Josh Carr (who's the biggest pr1ck to pull on a jumper) rattle us. I'm confident that someone with NC's intelligence will use this as a learning experience for the players and next time they will react in a more positive way.
