I watched seasons 6 and 7 of Entourage last week... You feel incompetent at every aspect of life after that

I'm just getting through season 4 and I agree, you feel so inadequate and jealous.

What I would give for that kind of life....

Soccer and basketball ain't got shit on baseball and F1. Kimi Raikkonen is on $51M a year.
Soccer salaries aren't actually that big compared to American sports. A lot of the money is burned up in transfer fees, of which the players generally receive a slice.

Ever since Ayrton Senna died I have been of the opinion that if there is any sportsmen in the world who deserve their over-priced salaries it is F1 (and MotoGP) drivers.

Despite safety improvemnts their lives at risk every time they take to the track... even in qualifying.

Can't say the same for Soccer and North American sports.

Tom Brady signed a new deal recently and became the highest paid player in the NFL so I'm sure he'd be up there. When Peyton Manning signs a new contract look for that to be in excess of 40m+ a year plus endorsements.

Ronaldos on about 30 million (AU) a year for his footballing ability. Getting an extra 22 million a year from endorsements seems probable. He gets approx 8 million a year just from Nike. Im sure he has many, many other sponsors, he would not even have the use for money - he would get paid to drive, wear clothes, drink eat. Then theres the advertisements like Valvoline which come to mind (cold playsees, hot playsees) + many many more im sure

Still don't understand why he needs to pay hookers to get his knob wet.

He could just stroll into any bar in L.A., play the character he plays in Two and a Half Men, and tell any gorgeous lass there "I'm Charlie Sheen, wanna f*** ?"

He doesnt need to pay for them, but he wants to because of the anonymity, ie hookers won't go to the highest paying tabloid for a story on their sexual exploits.

What I disagree with in general are the people that criticise the salaries of these athletes.

The people getting paid this money are a miniscule fraction of the overall population participating in that aspect of the industry. They get paid what their industry demands of them. Most of these athletes make **** all because they are not in the elite group. People forget this. If you happen to be a one in one million athlete in a sport that is followed by hundreds of millions of people, even billions in some cases, then by all means I congratulate them for what they are able to achieve and for what they are able to get paid.

I certainly don't envy these people because I don't aspire to do what they do. I love sports but I find academics to be a more realistic approach to achieving a life of comfort and at the same a path that I immensely enjoy. The people that are so critical of these athletes seem to be people that are frustrated with the importance of their responsibilities or a jealousy of the outcomes of these athletes (note that I do understand the difference between jealousy and envy).

I congratulate anyone who is able to reach the elite section of a competitive game (soccer, basketball, law, business, what have you) and reap the rewards via hard work and/or natural ability (though not inheritance).

Nozick makes pretty much that exact argument in a defence of classical liberalism. If the skills someone like Kobe Bryant possess make millions of people happy to give some of their legitimately earned money to him in exchange for seeing him play, how can anyone claim that he doesn't deserve the money no matter how much he gets?

Still amazes me how much money these pricks get though, oh the possibilities ...

And the greed an ego that is associated with it is also obscene. Eg John Terry at Chelsea. Lampard gets a contract worth 150K a week, Terry demands to be highest paid and gets 151K a week. It's ridiculous.

Players bickering over 40K vs 60K per week. More than people earn in a year.

Just obscene.
