Has anyone created an iphone/android app? either by programming it themselves or outsourcing the development?

Im looking at outsourcing at the moment using some sites like 99designs and elance.

Anyone have tips on iphone dev?

Eclipse? is that the development toolset?

I'm not too clued up on programming so I will be going down the outsourcing path. I've been reading up on outsourcing and have heard pros and cons for it. It will probably end up with a pragrammer in India or china, but for my first app it will be a good learning experience.

eclipse is an open source development environment.

http://www.eclipse.org/

http://netbeans.org/ - is another good one

there are plenty of good outsourcing sites on the net if you don't have the technical skills. in fact if you don't have the technical skills it's going to be a much better option but you just gotta be prepared to cough up money i guess. developer.com is another one.

for iphone apps https://developer.apple.com/xcode/ is the standard. i downloaded it at work about a month ago but i just haven't had a chance to play around with it and i don't use a mac at home. i'm not sure whether there are other DE's out there or if apple have monopolised it...

have never developed a mobile app myself. have been meaning to get into it for a while, but to be honest, if i did one it would be purely for money - i'm a mad techhead but i've got no interest in mobile technology in the slightest. i have roughly $10k worth of desktop and laptop computers in my house but i still use a $19 nokia that i bought off e bay and have little interest in upgrading. i just find the whole thing has become way too intrusive into peoples lives and they've become way too dependent on them. instead of being useful tools, they've become full extensions and in a lot of way's define a person which i find a little disheartening.

in saying that there is a lot of money to be made, and i don't begrudge people making money off them at all, fair play to them, and sure if i came up with an idea and made enough money that it freed me up so that i could just work on my own software projects then that would certainly be handy.

It's the Java environment and you just need to get the add-on for the Android Development Toolkit (ADT). I am going through an online course/forum called BuzzTouch at the moment. It has a good community there and heaps of plugins and the ability to sort out your needs online and then compile all the plugins in Eclipse. They also can host your program/app and any changes you make get automatically updated on their hosting site.

I am yet to really scratch the surface of what they can do, but it all sounds wonderful.

Oh, it's just that someone joined BuzzTouch and then followed me and I haven't even done hardly anything on there yet. I was just guessing that one of you guys joined up and followed me seeings as I have the same username there as here.

not me either.. i joined up and had a quick look, but i haven't gone into much on there at the moment.

I did manage though to see that once you have create an app using their online tool, you have to download the code and run it in xCode (apples iPhone development tool) in order to simulate it or publish it.

This does suck because apple, in all their wisdom, have decided that if you dont have a mac, you cant run xCode. Im not buying a mac just to run xCode.

Oh well, if it aint you guys, who is this random guy who is following me and also joined at the same time I did? Very strange. If you guys were following me I would love to run through an app with you and collaborate. We could get some something going. Depending on what we all wanted to do.

I have a great idea/plans for a certain sport app but am not really that great with technology, ie I would not know how to create it myself.

Anyone with links eg overseas locally i could pay to do it or someone on here that would be interested in partnering I will listen to. Anyone decent in India that could do it perhaps?

Any it guys reading that can do it? cheers.

Hey mate, check out www.elance.com, you can post a job (in your case iphone app dev) and people (from asia, including india most likely) bid on your job. you choose one developer, and bam! you have an iphone app. (well maybe not that quick).
Also check out 99designs.com.au you can get people to create app designs.
