Crichton Medal 2008

Just back from the night. Also surprised McPhee ended about 15th. Good result for Houli considering he only really played half a year. Spoke to him and his groin is a lot better and he will be ready to go next year. Great result for LLoydy. Hille seemed to poll well throughout the season.

Some good speeches in particular Pev which went a long time and he made a couple of references to wishing he was playing next year and hoped now to be playing against (I read bw the lines he wouldn't have spoken like that unless he was talking to someone about next year).

Lonergan spoke very well in particular about Jason Johnson said he loves him and said their relationship was just the entree and he looked forward to the main course.

Slattery said that he better say a bit because he didn't think he would be up there again for another 3 or 4 years.

Johnson spoke mainly of house the EFC had prepared him for life after football and siad something along the lines 3 times, 'the end is only the beginning'.

They showed a highlights clip of Welsh interviewing players on Bomber TV. A funny moment was that Jobe's mum still irons his jocks and socks. The room cracked up. Also something about JJ's favourite possession being a wok.

Highlight of my night the 87 yo lady sitting alongside having photo's with Bachar and pulling her skirt up to show him her injured knee then walked away and said "who was that". Also why do old people have to tell everyone they come across how old they are. Also very funny the nuffy sitting next to me commentating every highlights they showed amongst other things eg Pevs having a baby, "well done Pev, hope it's a boy, you have been great for the Bombers" - very amusing. Scored a good table actually.

Food was super.

All in all a good night.

heard a take from Rama's speech on the radio this morning and was pumped, he spoke with such passion and how proud anyone should be to pull on the red and black jumper. Does anyone know where we can get the full length speech?

If you're a BomberTV member I would imagine it would be availble there in the next couple of days.

Isn't it funny that the whipping boys - Stants, Watson, Slatts, NLM all polled quite well.

Could it be that people need ot take the blinkers off and recognise the good work these guys do, rather than just focusing on when they stuff up.

The results are lik a big F U to their knockers.

Well done to Hille - his heart this year epitomised what Essendon is about.

Except Chook:o

I'd have thought he'd poll in one of the Subi games (I think Freo where he kicked three) and possibly the Richmond game.

EDIT: Well done to Hilley obviously.

Crichton Medal Votes Per Game Played

Seeing as how we were decimated with injuries this year, this might be a better way to look at the Crichton voting, to see who played the best this year. McVeigh, for instance would not be so far back if he had played 22 games. So here goes:

1. David Hille: 12.8 votes/game
=2. Matthew Lloyd: 10.3 votes/game
=2. Mark McVeigh: 10.3 vote/game
4. Jobe Watson: 9.4 votes/game
5. Brent Stanton: 8.5 votes/game
6. Andrew Welsh: 7.9 votes/game
7. Jason Johnson:
7.8 votes/game
8. Dustin Fletcher: 7.4 votes/game
9. Angus Monfries: 7.4 votes/game
10. Courtenay Dempsey: 7.3 votes/game
11. Kyle Reimers: 6.9 votes/game
12. Alwyn Davey: 6.8 votes/game
13. Damien Peverill: 6.7 votes/game
14. Henry Slattery: 6.7 votes/game
15. Sam Lonergan: 6.4 votes/game
16. Paddy Ryder: 6.3 votes/game
17. Bachar Houli: 6.0 votes/game
18. Nathan Lovett-Murray: 5.9 votes/game
19. Andrew Lovett: 5.8 votes/game
20. Adam McPhee: 4.8 votes/game
21. Tom Hislop: 4.8 votes/game
22. Jason Winderlich: 4.6 votes/game
23. Tom Bellchambers: 4.3 votes/game
24. David Myers: 3.9 votes/game
25. Heath Hocking: 3.7 votes/game
26. Ricky Dyson: 2.5 votes/game
27. Adam Ramanauskas: 2.0 votes/game
28. Scott Lucas: 2.0 votes/game
29. Jay Nash: 1.9 votes/game
30. Mal Michael: 1.6 votes/game
31. Leroy Jetta: 1.2 votes/game
32. Rhys Magin: 1.0 votes/game
33. Jay Neagle: 0.4 votes/game.

A few anomalies there, like Dempsey and JJ.

However, if Myers had played the entire year, at that rate, he'd have scored 85 votes, putting him just below McPhee on the overall table.

Houli at that rate would have scored 132 votes, to finish in a logjam of 7 players within 8 votes

Hislop would have scored 105, just ahead of Reimers.

Some promising signs for the future.

Re: Crichton Medal Votes Per Game Played

Dyseon and Nash slightly concerning....particularly Ricky with the position he is afforded when he does play...

Re: Crichton Medal Votes Per Game Played

Please explain how

By multiplying his votes/game by 22. Obviously a hypothetical, but it's still promising for the future that we have kids who can poll well in the B&F, despite having "too many old players"

OMG Mark McVeigh only 144 votes, he had a much better year than that, thought he would have finished top 3 easy  well done David Hille :thumbsu:

McVeigh missed a massive amount of games, he was never going to be in the hunt

Nash's result is very worrying for himself considering he played just about every game this season - its obviously clear that the coaching staff don't rate his ability to follow instruction and stick to the game plan.

Wow, you deduced that much from it. I think you read into it too much.

I realise the club has a different criteria for awarding votes, but I would suggest his lack of votes come from having one of the leakiest defences. It is easy to single his lack of votes out, when his performances were directly and indirectly influenced by defensive problems upfield. I see much more to his game than his votes indicate. Anyway, we will see how he goes next year.

Also, can anyone answer my earlier question. Did NLM win the Bill Hutchinson award, and what is it awarded for?

Was a great night & thanks to all the players who gave up some of their time to have photos taken with us fans. Every one of them were very polite but special mention to Kyle Reimers who was great.
