Green absolutely threw his wicket away, very poor.
Smith, remarkable catch but he didn't need to play that shot.

They should both be out there batting still.

This comment on ESPN’s text commentary nails it:

Not least because Green and Smith could’ve batted this series completely out of England’s reach having done the hard part.

Said this on the other cricket thread but imagine how much Clarke would have ground these guys to dust with 200+ under full control. Smith and Green just go full idiot.

WTF was Green thinking with that beyond ridiculous 2 steps backwards and vertical swish across the line to a ball pitched on the stumps? o_O o_O o_O

He was on top of the pommy bowlers at a crucial stage of the game and then just throws his wicket away with an absolute get out shot that a number 10 or 11 would have been ashamed of!

Another farcical ending to an Adelaide WBBL game this time the second innings of the match couldn't go ahead not because of rain or lightning in the vicinity, but because some fool rolled a ball into the pitch when it was being rolled between innings, making a ball sized hole in the pitch!

How do you even begin to address this sort of thing as a coach?

It’s not like you can drag him, or threaten him with a week in the twos.

All while guys like Carey and Head can just as easily peel off 50 in 35 balls with exactly that sort of zany strokeplay when it works.

He’d instantly know it was an exceedingly stupid thing to do and a wasted opportunity from an individual and team standpoint, but that’s no good in hindsight.

How do you get these guys to not throw away their wicket before it happens?

New format? Wacky Pitch.

I suspect Ian Chappell, Steve Waugh and Alan Border would have torn strips off a batsman who got out like that at such a crucial stage of a game, and Ritchie Benaud or Bill Lawrie commenting on it would have been very interesting viewing as well.

No you don't understand - at the time he played the shot, there were only around 300 overs remaining in the match, so we were running out of time to force a result 🥴.

Hopefully he learns from the brain fade!!!

No doubt a wicket will fall as I'm typing this, but the West Indies are making a game of it in the First Test in NZ. Chasing an impossible 531 to win, they were down and out at 4 for 72. But now they're 4 for 267 - they couldn't.......could they???

I used to absolutely love watching Katich bat. His action of standing outside leg then creeping back over his stumps as the bowler steamed in would have been so annoying to bowlers and also it showed how much he protected the wickets as his natural action to setup always had him covering his stumps. Never exposed them. Genuine test cricket.

David Warner getting stuck into Cam Green over that pie shot. Ricky Ponting has also had a serve of Green. The criticism is justified as that was a stupid shot and not one that a Test class batsman should attempt particularly one who is being touted as a future no3. I am in danger of developing a complex about WA all rounders as I have always thought Mitch Marsh is over rated as a Test player and I am not sold on Cam Green either. Both have ability but have not been able to fully realise it at Test level.

Hopefully someone in the team management will have a quiet word with Cam Green about shot selection.

You know that the Green shot was bad when Warner is seen as a voice of reason…….
I’ll say it over and over, T20 is the worst thing to happen to cricket in general.
No value is placed on wickets and a sound defensive technique is something you see in old videos.

Australia score 500+ without a player making a century. Has that happened before?

The FOXTEL commentary team mentioned that it was the first time every Australian batsman had made it to double figures in a single Test innings since 1992 but a score of 500+ without a century maker was not mentioned while I was watching.

That maybe one for REH to answer.
