did anyone catch the swartze (spelling) on sen today?

pretty much said melbourne hasnt had an experienced coach as the head coach since the 60s when they got barrasi back and that they need to go for am experienced senior coach with a bit of mongrel.

imo i have to agree with him. no point going after another unproven coach.

For me it sends the message that the season is over.
Not at all, coming out and saying 'Bailey will coach till the end of the year and then we will make a decision' would be a season-over message.

Players are on notice now.

Barassi coached in the 80s.
Does John Northey coaching Sydney for a year before he coached us count as "getting an experienced coach"?

But saying that his contract will be reviewed doen't

Agree completely.

But that's not a bad thing really, this was a developmentally focused year.

Barrassi aside, it's been like that for a long time after the Dees dominant era. Other clubs decided to bring out the cheque book to get the best coaches in. Melbourne pretty much said we don't need to waste money on coaches to be a good side. Then there were issues surrounding the separation from the MCC.

Something like that anyway. I remember bits and pieces of the stories I've been told about the transition from the powerhouse that they were to what they have been for the last 40+ years. Melbourne were an old fashioned club and a club extremely proud of their history but in the end they ran the club using old fashioned methods for too long.

I'd say it's also coincidental as well, I doubt they have purposely avoided senior coaches more recently.

Whateley is reliable.

I actually liked Dean and have a sense of disappointment, but the right decision was made. 100%.

I liked Dean as a person as well. But when it came to coaching not so much.

Get Ratten as coach? Oh my, this is the first time an opposition supporter has sounded out Ratts as a potential coach of their side.

finey on sen was saying melbourne should play dirty and start talks with ratten to see if they can get him. not because they want him as coach, but to see if they can start some tension over at carltank.

Yeah no one here wants him and no one at the club does either- so relax. Was just SEN musing about the situation.

Give it a rest Puppet.

All the 'development' crap you keep spewing up is getting tiresome.

Burry your head in the sand much?

Not StTank (2001-02)? Though I forgot the myth, ONLY CARLTON TANKS

Yes Carlton would be terrified at the prospect of losing Ratten

I thought my sarcasm was obvious.

It was... Did you find something insulting or hard to understand in my light-hearted banter?

In all seriousness however Ratts has taken some giant strides as a coach this year. A lot of Carlton fans will be eating humble pie if he keeps improving and brings you some success anytime soon.

Ratten has now what Hird got and what Bailey never had: a very solid suite of assistant coaches. Hope this isn't lost in the hoopla of yesterday and today.

I think this will be my last season as a MFC member.

I am sick of the lot of them. Schwab atleast had brains which is more than you can say for our board or leadership group.

I really just don't care what happens to this club anymore.
your better than that mate.

Nono, i thought you thought I was genuinely concerned Melbourne were going to poach Ratten

All good, I am a Ratten sceptic, but as another poster has mentioned, he has all the resources he needs, great assistant coaches, and has the knowledge of being part of a winning culture in his playing days and coaching the club he loves. These are all things didn't apply to Bailey.

More than happy for him (or anyone for that matter) to take us to the promised land.
