Obviously choice is Crofty, yet he is near the end of his career also.
I think they should give Bowden the chance. O.k he is a bit soft but its time for him to deliver. Give him the responsiblity. He has been in the system a bit longer the skipper and has fine skill out of defence. Just needs to learn how to spoil and use his size a bit better.

The side is now weaker yet an opportunity is there. Remember when Peter Foster got his leg broken yet big Barry Fish Standfield came in and had a great year at CHB.

What do you think?

p.s. Absolute tradegy for Grant. He was set for a big year and would have loved to shove it up Wallace.

I really think this will work well.

Down back:

Croft - Best Forward
Bassett - Second Forward
Kretiuk - Third Forward

Then have the running backmen of Robbins, Hargrave and Harrison in the pockets and have back flanks.

Up forward:

Both Johnson and Bandy can take exceptionally strong marks. We need to use this to our advantage. Then I would probably have Wiggins as the third marking forward and maybe Skipper or McGuiness as a fourth.

Of course, Browny and Garlick should be our small forwards.

Midfield:

West, Smith, Murphy, Hahn, Giansiracusa all need to have first use of the ball, getting under packs, quick dispossals and giving our prime forwards the opportunity to be advantaged from a kick - Taking a mark and drilling the ball.

With Darcy in the ruck, swapping with Bandy and possibly Bruton, who I might add is a huge chance of cracking into the side, we shouldn't be affected to badly.

With Grant in it just makes our side so much better.

We'll still do alright.

I would go with Croft if fit enough to replace Grant. I would also bring in Skipper and leave out Harrison.

Looks like Birss will miss so perhaps McMahon or maybe Faulkner?

Good pick up Stefoid, I totally forgot about him. Skipper,Croft,Bowden and now Harris as replacement options.
What about Bruton in the ruck, Darcy to CHF nad Bandy to CHB.
Just a thought.

CHB has to be able to think and dispose of the ball quickly. As soon as bandy has to do something that requires speed or prescicion, hes terrible. Basicly its "bandy mark, bandy kick for goal", I reckon.

Having said that, maybe is a good matchup for richo. they are both big tall fast and unco, so maybe it will be a nil-nil draw, which is a win for any team playing Richmond. It would certainly be a matchup of comedic proportions, denis cometti would love it.

Pennys absence has taken on an entirely differnt light now :(

Lucky Ottens is not playing this week.
I don't think Bassett is suited to Richo so I would take the punt and play Harris on him.
Once again it is going to be decided in the midfield.

Penny is a dud and gone. We have better reserves than Penny and don't need gutless players.

You are playing down Bandy a bit as he has done more than we have asked for in 2002. 30 goals, heaps of marks and a second ruckman. Started the season well. 3 goals, 21 possies, 8 marks, rucked well again and only a few mistakes.

I agree he may be a good match up for Richo if he is at CHF. The way richo gave the pies youngster the runaround on friday is worrying. Bandy is not strong enough to play FB standing in goal square.

I agree with you on Bandy, Chops. I do have reservations about his standing Richo, though. He has the aerobic capacity, sure, but I reckon Richo is quite agile, and would run turn inside him pretty easily, ie do the usual Richo trick of doubling back and screaming "Over here, over here!!!!!"

The Bandyman did well yesterday, and I noticed that there was almost always a Doggies player standing to the front of a marking contest, ready for Bandyman to pop it down to him.

I don't care how dangerous Richo is, I wouldn't waste Daniel on him. Our midfield will get it out of the centre more than they will (just look at how King "dominated" the hitouts, yet our guys took it out of the center), and I'd leave him where the action is. After all, they will have to put one of THEIR good talls on HIM.

The Tigers will be ****ting themselves all week.

If, at the start of the pre-season, someone had have asked me, would you take out Ottens and Grant for the round two clash it would have been a tough choice, but I probably would have said yes as Ottens plays in the ruck. With no Ottens, that means Stafford, another forward, has to do the ruck duties and that only leaves Richardson as their only tall forward. Still, with or without Grant we should win this game.

Looking at things on the bright side – We had nineteen players yesterday who amassed twelve or more possessions. That proves we have depth all over the field.

Richmond is too tall. Thank Christ they don’t have Ottens. They could be saying the same about the Doggies not have Grant, too.

I would have thoughts no Ottens would mean more goal scoring opportunities to Stafford?

Which would allow Darcy to absolutely anihilate Hall in the ruck.

absolutely! our forward line played like a team!!!! (well except for Brown who did actually fake a handpass once ;) )

How can we have been plodding along for so long ignoring basic footy strategy, I just dont know.

I would actually go for Harris if Croft is not available.
I think he would give a good physical match-up with Richo.
