I'm a huge fan of Crouch Senior....his clean & quick hands in the most crowded congestion are a sight to behold. I haven't seen anything quite like it since Andrew Jarman & Diesel Williams. I reckon he'd be able to juggle with his eyes closed.

Crouch Junior? While I don't know stuff all about him, I've heard huge wraps about him.

Anyway, recently I was having a serious disagreement with a workmate about Crouch Senior - he reckons that Brad has genuine pace...but from all I've seen and heard - while Brad is amazing, he doesn't have rockets on his boots. Nor do I know if he has much of a tank (those two points...not the same). Anyway, all this had me pulling out my hair out.

I was hoping someone might know the full lowdown on both Crouch Senior & Junior, in regards to both pure pace...and then "engine/tank"? Also, how are their game-styles similar or different?

I just haven't seen anything of Crouch Junior, so I can't comment on him at all.

I agree with your workmate.

He had genuine pace, just a tad slower than Dangerfield.

Snr has insane evasion and lateral movement, with above average acceleration. His evasion and lateral movement appears to be elite. the combination makes him look pretty fast overall to me.

Probably honed in the backyard against Jnr.

Straight line and closing speed is probably closer to average, but he does change velocity in traffic like a gem.

that's my assessment.

Crouch Snr definitely has above average pace (in addition to his elite awareness/agility/movement in traffic). It's just not Dangerfield/Jetta lightning quick... he's got the perfect combination of everything really:hearts::hearts::hearts::thumbsu:.

Crouch Snr pace was hampered by injuries early in 2013 however when he returned to the side after mid season he most certainly showed a turn of speed

I don't think he has "genuine" pace, but he's got above-average pace.

The more important thing is that he seems to start running earlier than his opponents. He's got that instinct that gives him all the head start he needs.

Jnr's draft combine results were far from impressive so I would assume he's a touch behind Brad in the pace/engine stakes, at least at this stage, but as we've often seen, what happens in the combine is not always reflective of what happens on the footy field.

I thought I read somewhere that juniors poor combine results were a reflection of him being a good cricketer therefore never doing footy preseasons. Expect huge fitness improvement from him.

I think Brad's the most talented youngster we've had on our list for a very long time, he's different to Danger, Brad is just a beast of a player, it's no surprise that he was the second rated junior in the country in 2011. I think he does have above average pace but he doesn't use it as often, it'll come in time, but I've definitely seen it. His skills by hand is freakish & cannot be taught.. He just has it, he's obviously had a footy in his hands most of his life.

I haven't seen much of Matt but he did play u/17 cricket for Victoria so I doubt he would have even undertaken a proper pre season for football. All that I've heard is that he can rack it up quite a bit.

But yeah Brad's going to be a serious player for us, we're very lucky to have Danger, Sloane & Brad.

To be a top 5 player in 3 drafts in a row you have to be a damn good player.

love this kids game. Will grow into one if the top 10-15 midfielders in the competition. We are definitely building an elite midfield.

He's better than that

High chance of bring the best player in the clubs history

Danger's a top player because of his physical and mental attributes. He's got an absolutely unique combination of athleticism, strength, competitive and willpower.

Whereas Brad's a top player because he's just an absolutely natural footballer. He instinctively knows what to do, how to do it, and starts doing it earlier than those around him.

Both are extremely useful to have. In past eras I would have given the advantage to Brad any day of the week, but with the AFL seemingly insistent on turning AFL into a game that only elite athletes can play, we'll have to see. Very nice to have two men of such high caliber on our list though :thumbsu:

I'm on this wagon. Kid is electric.

I'll be watching his AFL player ratings with interest as it was a bit lower (points wise) than I expected given some of his footy last year. It could be me just not appreciating how a slow tally builds quickly once they pad out to the 40 games. What I'll be looking for if his footy is having the 'hurt factor' as measured by the AFL Rating points. I've liked what the ratings have shown (on average). So I'm keen to have Brad's ability validated through a rapid rising in his points/ranking this year.

Couldnt have said it better myself.

In terms of game styles that you were asking about Admiral they do differ

Brad Crouch is more your overall gun, athletically very good with no real lacking areas, adept at playing both inside and outside and has a real footy brain which gives him a big advantage over most. Players I would compare him to in order to give you a better idea are Marc Murphy, Luke Shuey, Adam Treloar, Dayne Beams.

BoB (Matt Crouch) is your typical extractor as they like to label them, with some of the cleanest hands and best decision making in close, tackle hard and generally rack up plenty of the ball. Think more your Luke Balls, Josh Kennedys, Brent Moloneys, Priddis, Daniel Cross (in his prime) etc.

Brad Crouch will be better than Dangerfield.

He is a more well rounded player than Patty was at the same age. I would suggest Crouch snr has a far better footy brain. And Danger aint no dunce.

Having both together is going to make for a great decade methinks.

gotta say, the thought of Danger, Sloane, Crouch 1 and 2 running around in our midfield for the next 7 or 8 years makes me smile :)
