Crowley has accepted a one week ban for something that only deserved a free kick, if that.
This new head high contact rule annoys me as much as the hands in the back rule, it's a contact sport for @#$%! sake.
Crowleys only mistake was he braced himself for a hip and shoulder, he's a hard player and that's what he expected. Presti decided to bend over at the last second and go the ball, that's how he plays. Had they have both bent over they would have probably had a head clash and one or both of them could have been injured. Had they both braced for a hip and shoulder it would have been play on.
I know they are trying to clean up the head high contact but come on, some of the reports and penalties this year have been a joke, Crowley is now your 2nd joke this year.
Have a look at Kirk's head high and Burgoynes and tell me why they didn't cop a week or two.
Maybe we need Judge Judy on the tribunal to get some consistancy.

Crowley's more than our second player to be hard done by. Johnson, Black, Dodd and J. Carr were all joke reports that weren't consistent with other incidents through the season.

From what I've seen of Judge Judy I get the impression she hates men so I don't think the AFL would have many players left by halfway through the season. Actually she seems to hate everybody.

I think thats fair enough...... it was a dangerous bump.......bit lucky he only took presti's shoulder.

If he had a good record he would have got off with a reprimand.

Yeah I was actually expecting a couple of weeks to be honest.

As long as they stay consistent now with front on bumps that hit the shoulder, but I'm sure we'll see people getting away with it later in the season. Still that's always going to happen with the tribunal unfortunately.

Maybe this should be on the society and religion board. Through the grace of God Crowley got him in the shoulder. He could have got him in the head and seriously injured him. Same action and two vastly different consequences for both Presti and Crowley.

Same with Daniel Kerr and the Taxi driver. If I recall correctly Kerr threw the aerial and got the driver in the nose. Through the grace of God (or dumb luck) he didn't get him in the eye. Same action and two vastly different consequences.

Same goes for drink drivers, fights where somebody hit their head on the pavement and countless other situations. Paraphrasing Khader Khan from Gregory Roberts' Shantaram we actually punish the amount of crime in a sin when we should punish the amount of sin in a crime.

Crowley was very lucky and hopefully he won't make that mistake again.

This Khader sounds like a wise chap. I wounder how he'd view the difference in sin between stepping on someones foot and a deliberate headbutt?

Crikey ! That is very deep and meaningful.

Presti needs to learn not to duck his head into a charging player before anything else, otherwise he'll get hurt eventually anyway.

Its not the point though mate, Crowley over commited to the contest and hit him with his head over the ball. He knew what he did as soon as it happened.

I don't agree with the suspension - I agree that players heads need to be protected, but I also believe that it's a contact sport and the new rules have encouraged players to do exactly what Presti did and drop his head when he saw Crowley coming. I think it's a bit harsh to be saying that Crowley was 'over committed' to the contest. We bag players like Mundy who don't commit to the contest, but in reality he'll probably be one of the few Freo boys without a report to his name at the end of round 22.

it was consistent with what they have been doing this year. whilst i think he was unlucky as he was going full tilt at the ball as well, and at the last minute realised he would come off second best if he did go the ball. what do they expect footballers to do in that situation... he couldn't stop, he could have killed himself had he also gone the ball, or he could try and jump presti, which if timed incorrectly could mean a boot to the face????

Do you realise it was the top of his arm and not the top of his shoulder that he made contact with, fair bump play on...

if crowley hit prestis head he could have done some serious neck/head damage.

we cant have players endangering the careers of others.

There's that word again, it very common on this board...

Just to let you know, AFL is a very VERY hard contact sport, if someone runs out to play they run the risk of being hurt in every game, deal with it.

lucky not to get 2 as the new tribunal interprets. Look what happened to poor Caracella it does end careers unfortunately :(

FFS, he didnt even make contact with his head or the top part of his shoulder, he hit him side on in the shoulder and Presti just jumped back and milked it, the only reason it was a report was because the ump was standing behind him and did not have a great view...

I cant believe he got a week for it!!!
