Crown Melbourne Part 4

Out of curiosity, and to try and get some chatter in this thread, what's the worst/weirdest decision you've seen when playing at crown?
I've seen a guy smash a pokie machine that were (still may be, haven't been in half a year) in the crown poker room & not get kicked out at all or have any security show up, just the guy talking to a supervisor about paying them back for the machine

at the poker table, I've seen at least a couple people fall asleep sitting up

Played in one of those midday madness games this arvo and sat down for a grand total of about one orbit. Saw one guy get lucky maybe 3 times in a row with coin flips then i get him all in with my AA vs his AJ on a J high board and of course he rivers another J. The tourney itself seems like a real crapshoot but good way of playing a live crown tourney for a low price i guess.

Anyone playing the JHDS events?

Midday Madness are flipaments. The Friday Freeze out ($175) is a better entry tournament.

I'll be going along to the Sunday $550 deepstack.

Hopefully some of the run good of this board rubs off on me ;)

Yeah played it last year didn't make it through but you gotta really punish the bubble and try and accumulate chips.

Too many tries and you might as well just pay for entry lol.
Matty, do you by any chance remember how many entries there were??

Thanks for the tip also, build a big stack - hold until buble - become bullyish.
Pick your favourite horse and see you in the A.M.
Sounds so easy doesn't it?

Are there are reasonably priced games at Crown. $175 !! ---- that. Midday madness seems like a crapshoot. Is it true you have 10-15 secs to make a call?

ha ha, yeah, well $175 is the lowest price your going to get to an okish type tournament there (i still don't rate it that highly with 25 minute levels).

the only time there is decent tournaments is during the aussie millions or the old ANZPT, but the buy ins are always around $1000 minimum.

The only realistic cheap live tournaments are pub poker. personally just stick to online.

absolutely but the problem with those things is getting them off the ground.
There are a lot of up for hire places around areas.
My guess would be you would have to find the best numbers of the pub poker leagues and getting it up off the ground using their clients.
Northern Subs is quite big, South Morang had 100 players of the $32 tournament on a Wednesday....
I love the concept I just don't have the funds to start something.

Late reply :) and not really weird/worst.... but an interesting hand from about 4 years ago.

Can't recall if I was at 1/2 or 2/3 table but we had 2 guys with massive stacks clash. One an old, quiet bloke and one a cocky younger bloke with a loud mouth who loved telling everyone how to play.

No real action of any note pre-flop and the flop comes 88x.... checks all round.....another blank......checks all round. River A.

Board 88xxA.

Cocky youngen: makes a bet.
Quiet old bloke: thinks and thinks......all in.
Cocky youngen: call mothergoose.... flips AA....dancing around oh yeah cop that. That's how you do it, blah blah blah

Quiet old bloke: flips over 88.

:D :thumbsu:

I'm playing the Crown Main at the end of this month/start of next but I have a question: best starting day is 1a or 1b?

No takers on this? Pretty sure you can reperchage on the Saturday so maybe the Friday night the best flight to play given its end of working week will be a ton of gamblers around?

generally saturdays are always the best turn out

also given most of the better players will play both flights, and a % of those players will make it through on the first flight, Saturday will be softer

If you can only play 1 then I'd suggest the Saturday for sure

played some 5/5 holdem at crown for th first time in a long time and saw it's now 400 - 1k.

no game running at all on sunday afternoon tells me that the room can't sustain it.
