Toast Crows Board 2022 B&F Voted by YOU - And The Winner Is....

Remove this Banner Ad

Welcome to the 2022 Adelaide Crows Board B&F ceremony! As the season has just finished and you all have been voting on the best players throughout the season, it's time to award a winner.

Each week on average 88 people contributed to the voting, making this the most robust and therefore best B&F system going around. None of this 5 coaches giving votes crap, these are the True Accurate Rankings.

How the Numbers Were Calculated

The question used for B&F polling each week was "Who played well against [opponent]?". People could vote as they see fit. You were allowed to select as many players as you like, but you weren't able to see the existing votes before voting, or change your vote.

Each week a player could score a maximum of 100 votes, determined by the percentage of people who thought that player played well that week. If 80% of people thought the player in question played well, they gain 80 votes.

These votes were divided by the number of games the player played, giving us a votes per game metric as the final deciding factor. This fairly shows who played best this year even if they weren't selected or were injured for parts of the year, rather than letting average players rack up mid-tier vote numbers and climb the ranks.

The full poll voting system was only used from rounds 4 onward. For rounds 1 to 3 I went back and looked through the thread and awarded votes to players based on how often those players were mentioned as playing well in replies to the thread. These were converted to votes out of 100 to match the other rounds.

THE WINNER - SAM BERRY

A huge congratulations to second year midfielder Sam Berry who took out the Crows Board B&F for 2022.

Berry was a highly consistent player this year, averaging 17.6 disposals, a ridiculous 9.5 tackles and 4.6 clearances, establishing himself as a key player in the Crows midfield. Unfortunately the Crows coaching panel was rather silly in not playing him the first four rounds of the year

Berry's consistency was a highlight, never polling below 43 votes in any match while also taking out two best on ground honors for the Round 17 loss to Hawthorn and Round 19 loss to Sydney

TOP 10 - DAWSON RUNNER UP

1. Sam Berry - 67.8 avg votes
2. Jordan Dawson - 67.1
3. Josh Worrell - 63.6
4. Jake Soligo - 58.8
5. Taylor Walker - 55.2
6. Rory Laird - 49.8
7. Darcy Fogarty - 48.9
8. Shane McAdam - 39.9
9. Ben Keays - 36.9
10. Will Hamill - 35.3

Jordan Dawson was narrowly beaten by Berry in the end, coming in second by 0.7 average votes. Dawson was named best afield in 5 matches including the famous after the siren victory over Port Adelaide in round 3, but ultimately a few lower finishes in the back half of the year cost him top spot

Also in a huge vote of confidence, Josh Worrell finished in 3rd, though he only played four matches, meaning his result was skewed to some degree by his excellent debut match where he scored 82 votes

Jake Soligo also finished top 5, as our best first year player by a mile. He confirmed himself as best 22 this year with a stellar back half of the year including a best on ground result in round 14 against Gold Coast

Rounding out the top 5 is Taylor Walker, awarded best on ground five times, especially earlier in the year.

The WORST Players Of the Year

Excluding players who only played a small number of games, the results are:

1. Luke Brown
2. Wayne Milera
3. Matt Crouch
4. Ned McHenry
5. Harry Schoenberg

It's no surprise that BigFooty voters smashed our underperforming senior players in 2022. This was particularly highlighted by the once reliable Luke Brown taking out the worst player award, who eventually found his way out of the team after round 11.

Wayne Milera also a highlight, playing 12 games including many in the second half of the year, despite no one rating him

Matt Crouch an obvious inclusion here after copping heat throughout the year. While Matt was never worst on ground (unlike the others in the top 5), he was consistently bad outside round 1

McHenry is quickly becoming a whipping boy on this board and despite rating extremely poorly throughout 22, managed to play 20 games.

Rounding out the bottom 5 is Harry Schoenberg, who needs a big pre-season. While Schoenberg's ranking did improve throughout the year (unlike McHenry), his disappointing performances compared to 2021 saw him suffer badly in the voting process

The Crows Board Best 22 By Voting

If the Crows board were also the selection committee and were selecting based on performance rankings with some eye for positioning, this is what the team would look like

B Josh Worrell - Jordon Butts - Chayce Jones
HB Will Hamill - Nick Murray - Mitch Hinge
C Jordan Dawson - Rory Laird - Lachlan Sholl
HF Brayden Cook - Taylor Walker - Josh Rachele
F Riley Thilthorpe - Darcy Fogarty - Shane McAdam
R Kieran Strachan - Sam Berry - Jake Soligo

I Ben Keays - Jackson Hately - Patrick Parnell - Tom Doedee
S Lachlan Gollant

The notable omissions here are Reilly O'Brien, Brodie Smith, Lachlan Murphy, Harry Schoenberg and Ned McHenry who all played at least 16 games this year but we decided actually aren't good enough for the best 22

Meanwhile the notable inclusions are Josh Worrell, Brayden Cook, Lachlan Gollant (as sub) and Kieran Strachan who we thought didn't play enough games

Not a bad R1 team for 2023.
Put Rankine in Cook's spot, Cook to bench and probably Hately out.
None of the 3 midget stooges!

Their a particular reason this award was given by averages and not totals? Good work either way.

Not sure I like taking an average when someone misses a chunk of games.

Amazing effort compiling it (trust me, it is time consuming) but say Newchurch debuted in rd 23 and kicked 8 goals and 100% of people liked his game. On average he wins it. (Heck, you see it with Josh worrell in 3rd)

Why first 3 excluded? Am I missing something obvious?

Why first 3 excluded? Am I missing something obvious?

For the first three rounds I had to collate who was good based on posts made in the review thread. It ended up that while a lot of players got votes, maybe 4-5 per match ended up with 0 so having 5-way ties for worst on ground probably isn't right

When will you announce me as the best poster? I have my speech prepared
