Before I start lets make it clear I am a Craig supporter, But I'm also realistic that he's been the longest serving coach we've had and every dog has it's day.

My question I am posing to the forum of the people who count - The supporters of the Crows - Is when Craig's time is up Who's next. Who do we want to see controlling the future of our beloved Crows?
Do we look internal and promote an assistant?
Do we look to past players?
Do we look to somebody who already coaching?
(yes I'm hanging for the season to start and I want something new to talk about until the agony of waiting ceases.)

My personal feeling is Craig gets 2-3 more years then we look to a past player who assisting elsewhere - S.Goodwin.

Thoughts?

The only way Craigy is going is if we finish bottom 4 which I don't think will happen.
I suspect Mark Bickley has already been given assurances from the club that he'll be the our next senior coach. Why else would he give up lucrative business and media commitments after spending so much time out of the AFL system.
My two preference for our next coach is Goody or Hound(if he wants to become an AFL coach).

Has to be someone in house. For me, Phil Harper seems the likely candidate....General Manager Commercial Operations, General Manger Football, Head Coach.... seems like a natural progression.

Aside from the cynical/sarcastic answers, why does it have to be an in-house promotion? Neil Craig was the first and only one of our 5 coaches to have been appointed from an "in-house" position.

Bickley is one candidate. If Craig can hang around 2-3 more years then Goodwin & Bassett will also be good candidates, both having the benefit of coaching experience outside the nest. Then there's all the candidates who are not ex-Crows...

The only people more concerned about this issue than these thread-makers would be those in charge of determining Craig's future themselves.

Give it a rest Feenix. Our club has problems.

Yes, but does it need 93 threads on the same topic? ;)

One more year. Two max. No PF appearance at least, then grab M Malthouse. In-house is aiming low.

Go for best available.... don't limit it to in-house, but don't exclude the possibility either.

I would like to see the club look outside the square in terms of finding a replacement when the time comes.

We currently have 17 fairly vanialla type coaches who all appear to be beating the same drum with a slightly different tune.

I would love to get an innovator, sure there is a chance to fail but it would be great to have a club that breaks new ground rather than manipulate the existing stuff.

If it happens relatively quickly, like in the next 3 months, then I would suggest someone like Mark Bickley

If if happens in say 4 or 5 years then I can see it coming from outside the club as we have no idea who will be available, who will be willing to put there hand up and what direction the club is looking in going.

Anyone who suggests that Sheedy is "vanilla" needs to have their head read. Then again, I suppose you weren't counting GWS in your 17 vanilla coaches..

And no, I can't be bothered listing the 17 AFL senior coaches. Look them up if there are any you're unsure about.

EDIT: I'm assuming Cap's 17 vanilla coaches are the 17 AFL senior coaches, not 17 coaches on the AFC staff (I don't think we have that many to begin with).

I am certainly not counting Sheedy as Vanilla - but he is the 18th coach ;)

Malthouse aint either, neither is Brad Scott IMHO.

As for us, as far as I know there's Craig, Hart, Bickley, Clarke and Camporeale.

I don't know much about Camporeale's coaching persona. As for the other three assistants - it doesn't get much more vanilla than that.

Frankly, I will be disappointed if Bickley ever gets the role.

Why?

Where has he ever displayed his football philosophies for the general public to analysis them?

I don't understand this disappointment with how he coaches when no one knows his football philosophies.

I hope it is someone who didn't play nor coach during the current Neil Craig reign. A fresh approach is what this club needs.
