Crows' draft focus on midfield

Adelaide will not make any decisions on delisting players from its squad until after the AFL trade period from October 3-7.

"Once that's finished, you are in a better position to make quite clear decisions," Adelaide coach Neil Craig said on Thursday.

"But we'll use the time between now and the trade period to look at our list and go through it. It's an important decision on all those players because you're dealing with people's lives."

Craig said the Crows would be looking for more midfielders in the NAB AFL Draft on November 26.

"And obviously every club is looking for some key-position-type players - forward or back - and if there are some tall utilities - people who can play forward and back, but not necessarily key positions - they're the sort of areas we'll look at.

"I don't know what's happening during the trade or who is available. I've said it before - personally, I don't like the trade. I think world history says as soon as you start buying and selling human beings, it's fraught with danger.

"But I understand that's the business we're in and I understand that's the way it is. Personally, I would sooner be able to select and develop players rather than trade them."

No real surprises there. We need to address that midfield ASAP. We need ot develop these kids so they are actually main players in the midfield when the current crop of stars retires.

With the developments of today and earlier retirement of Mark Stevens, I would suggest that it is also imperative that we pick up a KPP or 2.

I wish Springjoke would stop bleating on about how much he dislikes the AFC recruiting. It's a fact of life, get over it, Mr Hindsight.

Very happy that Craig has said that.

Hart, Torney and Basset are in-between heights are a major reason for our success this year. Having players who are capable of playing on both talls and smalls are vital to have in a defensive group, and I'm very pleased that Craig realises this, especially considering the ages of those three.

Obviously we need to draft midfielders, and unfortunately, as Stiffy said, with Watts leaving, we probably need a tall forward as well.

So I guess we need more of everything - except ruckmen.

Craigy has always liked his players to be versatile where they can play on a number of different opponents and in different positions so its not a big surprise that he is keen to recruit those types.

You are right though, for the first time in history of our club our ruck stocks are looking pretty healthy and by all reports we chose the right time to stock up. Many experts beleive that last year's draft was the best draft for quality ruckman ever. We picked a couple of good ones and it looks like we got a pretty good one on the rookie list as well. Unless some of those lads decide they are missing their mummy, we are set for a fair while in that depratment.

We need to stock up our midfield and we need to draft another tall or 2.

Yeah, ain't that the truth thanks to Fergus.

A KPP for up forward and a couple of mid-fielders should be the go this year.

So everyone agrees that we need to pick up midfielders, key position palyers and flanker/pocket types?

- everything except ruckmen?

So you're happy with our use of of top 20 picks are you smarta*s? Why don't you give us your insightful opinion, or is that a bit scary?

I enjoy reading most of the recruiting discussion on here. But your stuff is just a joke. Insight? You wouldn't know what it means, Springjoke. Like most clubs who have missed out on top five picks for years, Adelaide's record with top 20 selections is not great. But there's more to recruiting than top 20 and, overall, the Crows have a pretty solid record. But Im not going to waste my time responding in detail to someone like you.

Or in that case, why do you feel the need to reply to my posts. Stalker - me thinks. Do you find the 8 ball gets in the way when you eat. Now run along little boy.
