I think the coaching panel missed a wonderful opportunity to play mega watts today (see other threads) in front of the adoring faithful.

This week he must get his chance against a side that does not have big backmen.

We need to get some games into him before Carey retires and his presence may inspire Wayne to even greater heights.

Brisbane once did this with Roger Merrett and Craig Lambert in their last years at the club.

Reilly given his credentials at the club should also be given an opportunity, although his form today was not enough to get into the Best Players.

I would drop Mass, even though i like him as a player. His form over the past few weeks has dropped away.

I would also think about giving Nigel the chop, even though I rate him as one of the top 10 players to represent this club, over the last 13 or so years.

Bock too could be in trouble. He did not look the part today when he played forward. or else play him down back for two or three weeks, whilst Ben is injured.

Given that Lynch is playing for WCE, Ruttten may even be worth a look. We have to find out sooner or later, whether he is worth keeping on the list.

Lets not panic though and include young players for the sake of it.
Keep the rotations going as we have done so far this year, until today when we recalled Smarty, prematurely.

I agree, wouldnt drop Bock though. Hes been good the past 2-3 weeks and itd be hard on the kid to drop him after 1 bad game. I think we'll win the game against the eagles, we will all say how we are only 2 games out of the 8, then get flogged by the dogs at footy park. Its been that kind of season.

IN Watts, Jericho, Reilly and if fit Bassett
OUT take your pick.

I would probably play Jericho as a defender and give hi a job on Matera.

Play Watts, Stevens and Carey as tall forwards. Keep Watts closer to goal.

It should have been. Gathered 19 possessions and didnt waste one, and layed 9 tackles.

Sturt had so many really good players Friday night and I guess they couldnt fit him in.

Minus the bias - he was an average player in a very strong side.

With Hart out, I would like to see us play Bock in a back-pocket. Stiffy do you think Jericho has the footy smarts to play on Matera? I suppose this is a good time to find out. Gather Begley will be still out injured & no point rushing him back. ie. Backline of:

B: Jericho, Basset, Bock
HB: Hentschel, McGregor, Torney

Again, there was no bias there. Just truth. He wasnt average, he was one of the best users of the ball.

Watched the game did we? :p

I think given the raps many give him on here, his use of the ball didn't match up to say, Skipworth's, so it is nothing of an indicator of his relevance to our team. He has not impressed me at all in his games for the AFC, he seems soft and plays too far off his opponent. Seems to me a Nick Stevens type preening midfielder, but not as good.

Soft? pfft! Please! You are quite funny! :p

He is FAR from soft. He attacks the body hard which is why he has had so many shoulder/collarbone problems. 9 tackles on friday night with Sturt isnt soft. His attack on the ball is always furious and never soft.

Remember the Brisbane game when he played on Akermanis. The paper noted that Akermanis wasnt at his match winning best. Guess who played on him and kept him that tiny bit quieter than usual?:o

I heard somewhere that Begley might be out for a month or something? can anyone confirm this??

For the record I wouldnt put a rookie on Matera, Matera earns his money on outsmarting even the best of them, putting Jericho on him could really backfire, and could destroy his confidence if Matera kicks another bag.

Stiffy would be a good mathc up, similar size, Stiffy is stronger, has the pace and is a wonderful tackler. We also got another problem with Sampi, hmmm maybe Schuback in the backline could be experimented.

A player im worried about killing us is Embley, who are we going to put on him? We dont really have a player his size that can chase him all day long.

I'd expect Rhett to be recalled, because Cox will run Clarke and Hudson rampant.

Ahh well is this game on saturday?? Hopefully because I got a soccer game in Port Pirie this week!, so if it is atleast I wont have to see us getting flogged :p

SANFL form means nothing. When he has played AFL he hasn't looked the part. Again, I know what Dal Santo looked like after 10 games.

As a Centrals supporter who watched the game on Friday I can tell you Radar is spot on.

As for comparing Skipworth's kicking to Reilly, there is no comparison. Reilly is a fair way out in front of him.

Carmelo, Begley was interviewed at half time yesterday and said he is another three weeks away.

Reilly not up to AFL level? Go and watch last years final against West Coast.

He still has a fair bit of work to do, but he was certainly up to standard that day. That goal he kicked was excellent.

Well **** me dead. I have heard it all now. So Reilly broke his collarbone twice because he is skirting around the packs.

One thing we can't fault Reilly on is his willingness to be physical and go in hard. His disposal is infinitely better than Skipworth's.

Kane, the reason I said Jericho on Matera is because he is taller than Matera and just as quick if not quicker. This season Matera has shown that he struggles against taller opposition who can go with him off the mark. I guess its worth a try. There is nothing to lose because the season is shot.

Carmelo, Stiffy played on Matera once before and got his pants pulled down. Matera kicked 5 on Stiffy. Stiffy is not a tight player. He likes to play his own game and get his kicks.

I can see it now. Coaching staff play Shirley or Stenglein on Matera:rolleyes:

Yeah that goal was lovely wasnt it. Got the mighty double blues firing.

And Stiffy- my point EXACTLY. 2 broken Collarbones don't come about if you are a soft football player. They come about when you go in and under like Reils does. And to even put him in the same league as Skippy is complete crap.

Yea? I dont remember.

Remember a few yhears ago when we were playing at Subi, I think it was in 2000. Cummings was kicking goals with his eyes close. So Ayres went and put Stenglein on him :o

Cummings kicked 14 that day.

This is where we need Ben Hart. Ben carved Matera up beautifully in last years final. This week could get really ugly with no Benny. Come back soon Benny!

BTW where's that whinger who gets stuck into Harty every six months and says we should have traded him to Sydney. I hope he had a good look at the two games BH played recently to see just how important he is to the Crows.

It was last year when we played WC at footy park in the regular season game. I think it would have been round 4 or 5 or something like that. Stiffy got something like 15 possesions himself but Matera was causing us a bit of trouble an dhe kicked 5 for the day.

blighty is just a sniper who comes on once in a blue moon to bag Ben Hart, gets shot down in flames and p|sses off to his shell. Then when Hart plays another game below his standards he comes back out. He never comes on when Hart is in for which might explain why he hasn't been around for a while.

Without Hart, I don't think we have anyone that can really go with Phil, or at least stop his goal scoring. At Subi this Saturday night, after the absolute stinker he put up against the Pies last match, I think Matera will bag at least 6.

It's obvious but what's important is that we restrict the tall forwards around him and of course the runners through the midfield. Once they get on top, it will be a massacre. Hopefully it just doesn't get too embarassing.

i wouldnt play Jericho on Matera...to start with anyway! I'd start with Edwards and see how that pans out...people are bagging Ayres for playing players out of position, and so all of a sudden we wanna play Jericho down back?? Edwards has proved he can do the job on the good small forwards and is flexible enough...if Jericho plays it will b forward...(well who knows with this coaching panel tho! )

Stiffy ur correct on Stiffy :p ... does prefer to play his own game so playing him on Matera would b deadly...Johncock on a wing sounds good to me, esp as Burton hopefully wont b there (altho the chances of them dropping him atm are slim id say)

You do realise that Jericho played a lot of his footy in defence??????

He is equaly at home in defence as he is in the forward line.

You're right about that Stiffy. In fact Jericho did all his pre-season stuff as a defender not a forward.

Worth a try IMO.

Begley's the man that would have stitched Matera up good and proper, but sadly we won't see him until after the break.

Either Hart or Begley would have done a good job on Matera. Both are out and apparentyl Burton is out as well.

We either have Edwards or Jericho as reasonable match ups for Matera.
