I was thinking about if the Crows could set up an academy that looks at the young Aboriginal football kids in SA like the APY lands in an attempt to get them into the football system. Now it looks like we will be getting a reserves side it could allow us to make up our numbers by using these kids. And as a payoff we would get first dibs at them in the draft.

The AFL wouldnt say no I wouldnt think.

Think through Bunji's foundation the club could have a bigger presence. We are crying out for a speedster who can crumb a pack, tackle and kick multiple goals. A tall Jurrah type would also be excellent as well.
Anything to give us an edge.

Be careful. I know someone who lost their bloody job talking about this kind of subject.

If I were the Crows, I would let it go through to the keeper

Unfortunately I fear Rendell's only crime was that he isn't a wordsmith.:(

On topic; from the club's perspective what is there to be had from aiding in the development of any player not on their list? Unless it became possible to reserve players, as with the NSW scholarship, there isn't really any benefit for the club to develop a player only to see the player be drafted by some other club.

And yet Eddie is and gets away scot free. Makes a lot of sense doesn't it?

I'm sure Eddie only said it because he's spent too much time with that terrible racist Rendell and it's rubbing off on him.

We've been crying out for one of those for more than a decade, with very little attempt to find one, and even less success in getting one.

Our one genuine attempt to draft a small quick indigenous crumber backfired on us. When we drafted Jarrhan Jacky specifically for that purpose, somehow we managed to select the one small quick indigenous player who just couldn't crumb at all.

The AFL said:
This is racist! Maybe... Or perhaps someone might think it's racist? Probably, if we ask enough people.

Whatever the case may be, it's about Indigenous people so the thread should be deleted and Cleric should start looking for a new forum to post on!

I wonder if you could tie in Bunji's plans in with our bid for a reserve team and owning our licence.

Additional players for our reserves team could come from Bunji's academy.

As part of the deal to compensate the SANFL for losing the licence we could make a deal with the SANFL/AFL - we will pay X amount of dollars each year to the SANFL provided we get recruiting concessions for the amount of $$ and junior development we providefor SA footy.

We want value for money basically. We could appoint players from the indigenous development squad to our rookie list, similar to the NSW scheme.

Thats kinda my idea. Every year we take 5 or so Aboriginal kids from outlying communities such as the APY lands or even NT and they are brought into the crows club and given help and training in football, maybe there could be an education skills training outside of football, and we get first choice of them in the draft, just like the NSW model.
Have Bungie run it even. I would also involve Stiffies dad as he has been an awesome coach for indiginous kids in Pt Lincon.
We really need to think outside the box to get whatever advantage we can.

The NT is in the QLD zone, so those kids would be eligible for a Brisbane/GC academy - not a South Australian run academy.

I'd like us to have something similar to this idea, but like you said we'd need to get a return on our investment which means the ability to retain these players once they reach drafting age. Unfortunately I just don't see the AFL approving something like this, the AFL is only interested in these sort of measures when it's in emerging markets, for example the NSW scholarships and the academies for the NSW and Queensland clubs. Oh let's not forget the Cost of Living Allowances either, anything to help those certain few.

Consider yourself lucky you're not talking to Mifsud and Fahour.;)
