Geez , where to start -

Decision making
Shocking skills
Accountability
SOFT tackling
Players with 50-100 games under their belt USELESS

The entire list ( excluding 5 or so kids ) should be on notice as of 3 qtr time today.

Overall a good first half and not a bad last quarter. Horrible 3rd quarter. We played a much more attacking brand of footy and suffer for it during the 3rd but our forwards thank us for the entries being at least half flowing.

Tex was exciting and a highpoint.

Unfortunately our intensity was down, we don't pin the arms in tackles, allowing opponents to get a handball and our Zoning is horrible, we let players slip behind it and often stand in useless positions.

The old boys were, on a whole, terrible and disinterested.

None the less we're a young developing team, no doubt we'll see the usual call for heads, but that's what happens after a loss.

Johncock, Not great, Aker beat him and when he went to Hill, he beat him. A very forgettable game, but he did show signs of good form, bursting out of the back a bit.
Rutten, carrying an injury and not right. None the less he beat his man (Welsh/Minson) and spent the rest of his time trying to beat our other 'defenders' men. We're not getting back on Defence fast enough.
Otten, Was good but not spectacular. He's learning very quick but sometimes gives the quick hands to teammates in bad possies because he want to be attack, but thats better than kicking backwards....
Goodwin, Poor before injury, not at his best today.
Stevens, Not right. No impact.
McLeod, Disinterested, Does he wanna be there?
Doughty, Loosing patience for him very quickly. Last years form can only get him so many games.
Thompson, Started spectacularly, but shut down after the half by Boyd. Still needs to be able to beat a tag.
Mackay, Good in patches, poor in others. Really like him but his disposal and contested efforts need to list along with consistancy through the game (didn't get a tone a GT though). None the less far from our worst.
Reilly, love his disposal. Put him in the middle, Tex will get a hard on for his delivery.
Walker, Bright spot and a real contender for rising star. More confidence (as seen with that crazy mark effort in the last) and his footy brain is unmatched at our club in the 50. Just does good things.
van Berlo, One of his worse games. Fumbles, TO's. Just not on today. His endevour is good but his execution needs a lot of improvement.
Porplyzia, Good in patches, but seems disinterested. Missed a couple of handballs to open team mates. That said his set shots are gold, as is his body use.
Tippett, Love his work, clearance machine and tackling is one of the best at our side. He's good in the middle but I love him in tandom with Tex up forward.
Douglas, Good when he had it, good effort, but not enough of it. Far from our worst though. Although many of you will probably disagree.
Moran, Just seems too laid back for me. Could be massive nerves but he wasn;t great. He was good here and there but did nothing to prove himself an AFL player yet.
Vince, form was down from last few weeks, just not getting enough today. But when he gets it it's USUALY good.
Edwards, Poor today, got caught, bad use, just not a day for the oldies trying to catch the swift doggies.
Symes, Burnt it here and there, but his attack on the footy is an example for a lot of out other players who don't seem to want it at times.
Knights, Get your whips out now haters. LOVE YOU KNIGHTA! Ball use was good, effort was good and is this a goal kicking midfielder?
Dangerfield, I just love him when he's on. Hope his tank gets 90% TOG ready soon because when he's at a clearance he just takes it off the opposition and if he doesn't clear it for us, he kills their attack.
Petrenko, Not a lot of GT, I like his endevour and ability/desire to take players on. Just needs to find a lot more of it.

my thoughts

game plan - players are confused and coaches are not aligned

structure - the zone throws out all our structure, we push back too deep and any forward structure goes out the window

tippett - must play forward and give Tex a hand

footy smarts - we have too many players that lack footy instinct and footy smarts, hate to say it we are a dumb footy side, too many fundamental decision errors

....

Tippett, Love his work, clearance machine and tackling is one of the best at our side. He's good in the middle but I love him in tandom with Tex up forward.

Agreed the more i saw of him in the ruck today the more i like him there as opposed to up forward maybe its time we gave sellar a go up forward and leave tippet as our number 1 ruckman he is to valuable around the ground

how abourt Sellar showing some form, he has to earn his spot

I would rather play Maric ruck and push Tippett forward

We were killed in the middle when Tippett wasnt in there. His ruck work was awesome today. I dont think the Moran experiment worked today as hes really a sub standard ruckman.

Today shows why Walker needs to play all year. He will have down games but he will also have more games like that.

Van Berlo played a horrible game and really the whole team has just seemed flat the last 2 weeks. Also i dont think im a fan of Symes.

Tippett was awsome in the ruck today im not sayin for a second sellar is in good form but who would you rather bring in as another forward option i he is still only a kid i say give him a go maybe something good may come of it

I agree with everything you've said. Excellent analysis.

Just got home from the game.

I thought we were weak as p!ss today, especially the 3rd quarter.

FFS how hard is it to man up?

Sorry Craigy, the zone has been worked out this year (see Hawthorn's fall from grace) by teams who have pace (yes that's right pace) in the midfield. Too many times they would go forward and have players unmarked 35m from goal. It was painful to watch Eagleton and co tear us to shreds.

Knights is our next captain. Strong, tough and able to break through the lines. Would be a better captain than the crowbot (can't mark, can't kick, can't tackle) van Berlo.

Taylor Walker you are a star! Thrashed the highly rated Anjreas Everitt today. Should have had at least 6 goals but couldn't convert. His clever little bump on his opponent in the marking contest in the 4th showed just how clever he is. If we can assemble a decent midfield who can get it in there quickly, then he will thrive.

Played a blinder and was only held back by our midfield. He found space on numerous occasions, yet his lead was often ignored.
When you've got a bloke beating his man as comprehensively as Walker was, why not kick it to him more?

IMO we can do all the individual player evaluations as we like however until we get our game plan and structure right it is all pointless

Bottom line is

We adopted the Hawthorn zone as the key to our play book, the hawks zone was largely successful because Geelong in the GF Geelong kick themselves out of the game and handed the flag to the hawks.

Now all the good teams have worked out the hawks zone and the two clubs that are using it are struggling which is us and the hawks

I am putting the accountability back on the coaches, fix the game plan first then we can hold players accountable

Amazed at the overuse of handball. When we kicked long, the majority of time we got the desired result.

We also need to develop a direct style of football, we could win the zig-zag championships with the way we are playing

On todays game Tip is our best ruck. He is strong, is a presence and can tap the ball to a player.

Moran can play Forward, he knows how to get the ball, if not finish. And Maric to play second Ruck. Griff to win premierships at Centrals.

Walker showed how good a forward he will be.

Those are the highlights for me.

My thoughts.

Gameplan:
We are trying to play the fast handball run and carry game ala Geelong. At the moment we're not very good at it but man when we get it right it looks beautiful.

Where it has been falling down has been in the execution. So many times I see players try something which is the right idea but it is just executed poorly. That said it is gradually getting better, today we went to sleep for a quarter but the other 3/4 of the game we were by far the more attacking team.

Youngsters:
I thought our young players did quite well. Tex showed marking and kicking ability that we have missed in the forward line for years. His efforts when he was not able to mark in tapping to his or another's advantage was excellent.
Tippett did well with 16 hit outs and took a couple of good marks, Porps just continues to be Mr Reliable and Dangerfield is growing in skill and confidence every game.
When you see how Walker and Dangerfield impact our game it is hard to remember they are only 19.

Skills:
Our real downside, our poor skills today really cost us the game. Most of the dog's goals in the first half came directly from unforced turnovers caused by poor delivery. Again something that I can see getting better, even if we were more severely punished for it today.

Tackling:
We need to work on this. Perhaps get a wrestling coach in or something but we allow too many effective handballs to come out of tackles. I understand that you can't always stop they getting a disposal but at least we should make that disposal rushed and ineffective as much as we can.

Mixed Reactions to todays effort

1. Don't think we kicked the ball backwards once today and that was great to see us really take the game on from start to finish.

2. The "safe" players who love the conservative game were caught out ......Doughty!!!!!

3. Obviously a major change in how we approached the game today and really it was a bit much to expect the young players to be able to keep the consistency going allady .......and frankly under pressure some faualted, but again not really unexpected.

4. I applaud Craig for going out all attack today .......he would have known the likely consequences of a shoot out .......but I am guessing we needed to shake the safety first aspect of how we have been playing lately

5. Loved that we looked to short pass to a leading forwrd today ......our ritual has been to bomb the ball

Today suited Walkers leading style and hopefully players will start to look for him more

6. We are definately a tall down ........Stevens is not right and both defensively and offensively we needed another tall

Having Rutten and Reilly trying to outmark Minson .......well you know

7. Moran .......again non competitive and hell our midfielders worked their butts off ......at least he could have broken just one pack

Looks good when he has a run and jump .....or when he's free as a linkman ......but that's not what he's in the side for

Doughty: Loves the game slow and plays the backwards pass to perfection

Fumbled all day and frankly as much as I have been a supporters of his once sure skills .....ATM i think he's just playing his l;ast season out

Thompson: Best game of the year .....but needed more support around him and really the Dogs were just able to close him down due to lack of midfield support (bumping, blocking to free him up)

Dangerfield: we all know he's going to be a beauty .....but even though his output today was minimal ........what he does which is currently not coming off, you can see WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE

Tippett: IMO best game for the club today ........he tackled, he harrassed, he never let Hudson get on top ......and importantly negated Hudsons centre clearance work

I know he can ruck ......but he is potentially a great CHF .......he's mobile enough, agressive enough and today he was trying to lead a team by example

Moran: Pretty boy who can't get down and dirty .......will be just a seat filler

Porplyzia: I know he's had a shoulder op and if it's not giving any trouble he must be played as a midfielder.

Bring in Jacky to take on his role and let Porps be the clearance king ........I think that's his go

Just lacking a bit of spark ATM

Stevens:
Is getting better ......but is being swung around so much it is affecting his form

As I said we're a tall down

Knights:
Looked good today .....4 goals is a great effort and he looked very comfortable ......in fact the most comfortable and confident that I have seen of him.

Mackay: Did some good things but uncharacteristically turned the ball over a bit.

Getting a bit more attaention in his second year from opposing coaches and is a bit inconsistent as you would expect from young players ........don't mistake though this kid is all class

Walker:
You could see the confidence growing in this kid the longer the game went on.

A breakout game in terms of his next stage of development

But importantly the players up field were looking to enter the 50 with short passes more and Walker is a natural leading forward who will benefit most from this.

I think the strategy was also in place because Of Tippett being in ruck more and there wasn't a tall marking forward to bomb to that was capable of marking the contested ball

Goodwin: Poorest game of the year

Douglas: did some very good things but not often enough

Otten: Mr consistency !!!! .......needs a lot of strengthening up next PS ..... but he's cool under pressure and developing nicely

Petrenko: If Otten is Mr Consistency then Petrenko is Mr Effort

The kid will get stronger .....he'll learn the game this year and be better for it

Just a great kid who wants to play AFL SO MUCH (Moran take notice!) .......that he will will himself to be good

Reilly: Great disposer off HB ....but really was lost when the high ball came in and his opponent dragged him back to the last defensive line

Has a lot to learn if he's going to be a regular in defence

Vince: Quiet ......compatred to last week

Tippet has become our most important player. I so badly want him to play forward but soon may need to concede that this is not going to happen because he is just too good in the ruck and we have few other options. Its a major issue. We need two of him as our other rucks just havent developed. Badly need to find another forward if Tipp is destined to be a ruckman. Sellar, McKernan, Rutten, Moran, Hentschel ????

Stevens is definitely not right, he needs to be dropped.

Still not a fan of Douglas, but I know he wont go this week

VB has been terrible this year, this week was one of the worst games I've seen him play. What the hell is wrong with him?

Moran, no good.

I see us losing 5 in a row.

Knights is our next captain.
Strong, tough and able to break through the lines. Would be a better captain than the crowbot (can't mark, can't kick, can't tackle) van Berlo.

It's been stated that Zones are easy to penetrate by run and carry teams

It's up to the midfield to pressure the opposition runners ....to tackle and stop the run and force turnovers.

We all know that Tackling is not a strongpoint ATM due to the immaturity of our midfield

Petrenko, Dangerfield, Thompson, and Porplyzia will help turn that around in time ......but today after half time once the midfield reduced the pressure it was like a knife thru butter

If Taylor Walker played for Geelong he would kick 50 goals again this year. Have a look at how quality he is with half decent delivery. Exceptional talent. Was BOG by a long, long way.

Brad Moran = Spud, about as useful as a shit sandwich. Scared of his own shadow. List filler.

Tippett - Comfortably our best ruckman, would like to see Maric brought back in to support him. His development curve is enormous and in 3 years will be as damaging as a Brad Ottens IMO.

Edwards - Shouldn't have played

Stevens - Not right, that bump has ruined his season to date.

Doughty - Big pile of Meh today.

Douglas - Really needs to take ownership of his spot in our lineup or is in danger of being overtaken by younger guys. Disappointed with his efforts.

Reilly - With the quality of his footskills really needs to be in the guts feeding Walker IMO. Walker could kick 8-10 with Reilly feeding him.

van Berlo - Worrying. Very worrying. Since the injury pre-season hasn't been himself. 3 and 4 grabs at the cherry and his disposal atm is just shocking. Is actually in danger of SANFL time based on his form.

Otten - Love this kid. So composed down back. Occasionally sells both himself and his teammates into trouble but is to be expected from a kid with his level of AFL experience.

Petrenko - Leave him up forward or down back in a pocket for the year. The kid tries his guts out. Love him to pieces and with some body weight behind him and adjusting to the pace will be an exceptional talent. Fantastic tackler which means he should probably be traded away for breaking team rules ;)

Mackay - Love him but he appears to have gone backwards a little bit. Not really cutting teams up with his disposal like he was at one point there but he'll come good.

Knights - Loved his game today. Forget the poor footskills it's all fitness and between the ears with Knights. I still believe once he gets a proper fitness base with a full AFL season or two behind him he could be an elite player. Showed how damaging he is with the ability to kick goals from outside 50 on that swinging left boot and has a bit of aggro.

Johncock - Poor game by his standards

Thompson - Underrated within our own team. Doesn't get enough plaudits for his efforts and always gets hammered by the opposition. 34 Touches today around the bottom of the packs and is far and away our best midfielder.

Mcleod - Devastating to see a former champion play the way he is. Horrible game and a horrible season to date.

Goodwin - OK until injured.

Dangerfield - Ricciuto reincarnated. Loves being hit and loves body contact. Could actually do with a couple more of his 'type' that love the aggro. Future star.

Re: Beat the traffic

Adelaide are playing on at all cost with a 10% efficiency rate. So far it feels like theres a team of mindless players nning out on the field. I trully believe we need a change of coach. We need a Mick Malthouse type who can set our youngsters up.

My first observation is that we made a concerted effort to play much more attacking footy. My second observation is that we are not good enough yet to play that style as was evidenced by some shocking turnovers.

I am not critical at all of Craigy today. People complained last week about our stagnant defensive style, well this week were completely the opposite. The result was terrible turnovers, but also some good play where we saw some good entries in our forward line. To have 26 scoring shots from limited opportunities is testament to that.

We should have been 4 goals up at halftime. We made all of the running in the first half, but the Dogs just dined out on our mistakes. This I think had a deflating effect at halftime. One of the consequences of playing a running and attacking game is that you leave your opponent to create. The problem with this is that if you turn the ball over it leaves free players everywhere. Supporters who are critical of our gameplan can't have their cake and eat to, at the moment you just going have to deal with it as we are not good enough yet. However, if we keep up with this style of play it will put us in good stead in the next couple of years when all of our young players have more games under their belt.

Above all our most important issue over the next few years will be how we can develop a midfield. If we go backwards here, we have no hope.

We all know that Tackling is not a strongpoint ATM due to the immaturity of our midfield

Petrenko, Dangerfield, Thompson, and Porplyzia will help turn that around in time ......but today after half time once the midfield reduced the pressure it was like a knife thru butter

I only partially agree with this WW.

Petrenko is close to the strongest tackler in our lineup ATM and some of the blokes putting in the piss poor efforts are 3-6 year players. I do understand with development it will improve but it's no excuse for blokes like Mcleod (although he did stick one nice tackle today), van Berlo, Doughty and co not to be wrapping blokes up and keeping them there.

We're close to the worst tackling side in the competition at the moment.

Brad Moran = Spud, about as useful as a shit sandwich. Scared of his own shadow. List filler.

.

Where;s the clown who pronounced himself the fountain of knowledge and proclaimed inside info that Moran was recruited and WOULD TAKE OVER FROM BOCK at CHB

:p:p

What a ****ing shambles. I'd say it was hilariously pathetic - but that doesn't do it justice.

Little wonder there was barely 30K there today - and in a months time it might just be 20K. I'm nearly done. Wasn't going to go today - but got dragged along and really wish I hadn't.

Handball backwards, sideways, short kicks across the defensive 50, hospital handballs every 2 minutes - I've never seen a side with capable players play such horrible, horrible football.

That wasn't even a top side today - and they thrashed us.

You've got 2 or 3 forwards that can mark the ball and kick goals. Just ****ing get it in there. But no, have to turn backwards, handball, handball, ****ing handball, oh shit a turnover and a goal. Who would've predicted that.

Moran is one of the most pathetic excuses for a footballer I can remeber, and Stevens was soft as butter today. McLeod hopeless again. All 3 of them need to be ****ed off into the SANFL.

Crap football, crap results.

That contract extension isn't looking like such a good idea now.

But you know it's all about capacities, learning experiences and "we've got to get better at that"

The players absolutely hate the shitty style we "play".

They go to do the right thing by kicking the ball, then they second guess themselves and remember the "gameplan" (and I use that term loosely) and handball around in circles until it's turned over.

When a B Grade side tries to play like an A Grade side - you end up playing like a C Grade side.

Keep it ****ing simple. FFS.

Turgid shite.
