So... without further ado:
I'm sorry, I couldn't help taking a dig.
Let's go back and review the last two games for each club.
I was sitting on the couch kind of not watching the Richmond-Collingwood game on Friday night while spelunking in the bowels of the internet and photoshopping Conchita Wurst images to upload on thefappening.com. There was 10 minutes or so left in the game and as you might imagine my behaviour was irritating my wife fairly in a fairly intense manner (something about a divorce, I don't know I wasn't paying attention) so to distract her, I joked with her that Richmond would find a way to lose this game. We had a good laugh at that as Richmond were two or three goals up and the sting was gone from the game. We went back to the internet to google Lawyers.
Ahem. At least it was good TV. Unless you are a Tiger supporter.
Conversely, on Saturday, I had a good friend of mine come round to watch the showdown while I ignored my children for three hours. I've known this bloke since primary school and we've always got along well despite his rather serious disability - he's a port supporter. It was however a great game to watch together as it generated a lot of conversation starters such as "How much are you guys paying Dixon again?", "How many has Lynch kicked now? I've lost count", "What percentage of momentum do you reckon you lose when your best player misses two shots from 30m out dead in front?", "What is that on Young's head?" and "Was there a late replacement for Polec?" (answer - neither of us knew).
We're still friends - I felt sorry for him and gave him some booze. Also gave him a straw to drink it with that neatly fit where his front teeth should be.
What should we conclude from that? There's a number of things:
Likely Team - Richmond
Well, according to these blokes the team line-up will be something like:
Out: Grimes (inj), Grigg (inj), Short (inj), Astbury (inj), Hunt (omitted), Hampson (omitted)
In: Batchelor, Morris, Moore, Edwards, Chaplin, Maric
B: Batchelor, Chaplin, Morris
HB: Houli, Rance, B.Ellis
C: McIntosh, Cotchin, Menadue
HF: Martin, Vickery, Edwards
F: Lloyd, Reiwoldt, Griffiths
R: Maric, Miles, Lambert
I: Moore, Townsend, Vlaustin, C.Ellis
On analysis, I'd think Richmond will bring in Chaplin. Tex will get Rance (who he flogged last time), so god only know how Richmond think they are going to deal with Leroy and Lynch. You'd think the tigers will bring in the experience to try and stem the tide. Edwards and Maric are probably underdone, but you'd get them in if only to reduce the total potato count.
Still, any week that you're turning over 6 players is not a good sign. It would have been 8 players if Vlaustin and Townsend got suspended. Think on it.
Likely Team Adelaide:
Out: Noone, you legends
In: Noone, you legends
B: Lever, Hartigan, Brown
HB: Smith, Talia, Laird
C: Sloane, Thompson, Seedsman
HF: Milera, Lynch, Atkins
F: Jenkins, Walker, Betts
R: Jacobs, B. Crouch, Douglas
I: McKay, Cheney, McGovern, M. Crouch
There's no case to drop anyone. I like having Cheney in there to provide a 2nd 3rd tall (if that makes sense) and that has really helped. Rat went at 100% disposal efficiency. Knight has put a case forward to come back into the team, I can only see that being for McGovern. And to boot a 2nd gamer out who kicked two goals and generally played well... that's not going to happen. So no change.
The big matchups
I'm not going to bang on about the obvious ones, you can look at the preview thread on the Richmond board for that. I mean, Tex vs Rance (muahahahahahah!), Talia vs Riewoldt (muahahahahahah!), Jacobs vs Maric (muahah?) or Hampson (muahahahahahah!) and Eddie vs some poor bloke who will need counselling post game. All 4 of those big match ups are in our favour.
So, here's the ones that I think will be interesting.
Dusty vs Cheney
This is the first image on google image search that comes up when I put that into google.
I'm not actually sure if Cheney will get dusty. He's about the right size and probably will when Dusty is forward. Otherwise it will be whichever midfielder is going to have a bad day for the Crows. Dusty is bloody good - pretty much you can't tackle him, he's too strong. That gives him time in close to do something constructive with the pill. Still, he's one player. As long as he doesn't unduly influence the game, crows are golden.
Mackay vs Inanimate Carbon Rod
Again, this is the first image that came up. Hit gold there.
Mackay is the poster child for my comment above stating that the last few players in our 22 were a walking turd last year. He was bloody good vs Port, with a lot of outside ball (receiving it I mean, not tearing his shorts) and a few courageous acts.
There's no match up for the bloke that I'm going to talk about - he's playing himself. If he, as a senior player can actually be a... senior player... rather than a walking turnover... that will go a long way.
The Verdict
If the crows keep anything close to the form we had vs Port, we will pump Richmond.
That said, I don't expect the tigers to just lay down like Port did.
That said that said, when you look at the teams, I'd say the match-ups show we are on top in attack and defence, while being even in the midfield.
That said that said that said Brouch and Mrouch are going to tear a game apart soon... would be great to be this week.
Crows by 6 goals.
GO YOU GOOD THINGS!
- CRTL+Click and open this link up in a different tab. Let it play while reading.
- I'm putting this here so you young whipper snappers with your "rap music", "long hair" and "mobile phones"* will think I'm cool.

What should we conclude from that? There's a number of things:
- The crows are on the up. We've been okay-ish over the last year, but not great. The inconsistency has been because our top 15 players are solid A and B graders, but the last few blokes getting selected in the 22 were potatoes. No longer. We traded a bit, we've found some youngsters and a couple of blokes have stood up. Coupled with a short injury list we've got a lot of depth right now and some bloody good players not being selected. I don't remember being in this position, ever.
- The tigers are being... Richmond. They're not a bad team but they have a whole pile of first 22 out this week. They have a couple of great players in Cotchin and Martin - and they find a way to compete in every game. However, they still find random ways to lose.
