Twilight opener for Crows in Cup

FOOTBALL fans' readiness for Sunday night matches will be tested in the AFL's Wizard Cup series.

The AFL has programmed Adelaide to open its defence of the pre-season title with a 4.40pm match at AAMI Stadium on Sunday, February 22 against St Kilda.
The timing of the game will give the league an early indication of how the Adelaide market will embrace a return to Sunday twilight matches for the first time since the mid-1990s. The AFL is still to set in stone the Sunday night matches in next year's premiership draw.

While the league issued the draw for the Wizard Cup in mid-September, the AFL only now has put dates and times to the matches.

Adelaide's opener against St Kilda has been assigned to Channel 10, ensuring its coverage on free-to-air television. The Cup will be a four-week, knock-out competition with Adelaide and the Power in separate halves of the draw.

The final will be played on Saturday, March 13 – in the home city of the grand finalist which has scored the most goals in the preliminaries.

* 4.40 pm? Who comes up with stuff? Can't wait to hear the club's response on this one.

Actually I prefer 4:40pm to the middle of the day. It means you can do stuff before the game as opposed to a 12-2 start. Also, for the oldies or young kiddies they don't get home too late.

Picutre this. February, high summer, hottest part of the day.

Temperature 43 degrees.

Final quarter.

Every player either cramped up or off with heat exhaustion.

Should play at night in summer. Day games are stupid.

Jars, if the temperature is that hot, then I'm sure the game would be put back.

Totally correct. The player's health is at risk as well with the day games in summer. Night games should be mandatory until mid-March.
