The Francesco Schettino cat. Definitely polyglot character. Here's the thesis. All we need is

So many maritime experts writing stuff when the facts aren't even out.

I reckon a 'blind eye' is a prerequisite to being in management at that company.

Whatever the cause they got most of the over a thousand people off with just a couple of dozen losses - this when the ship would have gone posidon in deeper water. Remarkably good and an actual FACT

Too much complaining methinks.

Sure - who gives a **** that a couple of dozen people died. Nothing to see here.

Just because you manage to not kill everyone on board when you **** up doesn't mean people can't complain about those who did cop it.

The Captain sounds like a complete clown. Tripped and fell into the lifeboat :o

Tripped and fell into a lifeboat? Diverted the course of the ship to wave at someone? If he doesn't go to jail for decades there's something wrong with Italy's justice system (well, there is, but even more so). Dereliction of duty sounds quite accurate.

Incorrectly reported for a "Good headline"

But you are happy to repeat it.

In maritime incidents involving abandonment theres two issues one is the incompetence in getting into trouble, the second is the performance in preserving life.

All I can say is people are a little too quick to condemn the captain alone and you wonder what else it is a convenient smokescreen for.

And yes, for a capsized ship the loss of life here is remarkably low. While they were unlucky to be on the ship, they are very lucky to be alive

I think you don't really have such concern at loss of life so much as being able to provide your witty commentary online.

And if you are really that concerned, try the horn of africa for your concern.

"I was trying to get people to get into the boats in an orderly fashion. Suddenly, since the ship was at a 60-70 degree angle, I tripped and I ended up in one of the boats. That's how I found myself in the lifeboat," Schettino said
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/jan/18/costa-concordia-captain-stricken-cruise-ship

Please tell us how this has been "incorrectly reported" ? How do you know that these reports telling you that it has been incorrectly reported (if they exist that is) haven't been incorrectly reported themselves?

and when you finish painting I want wet paint signs and if the paint on the wet paint signs is wet then I want wet paint signs for the wet paint signs.......................

Don't forget that he spent an hour there before it cast off and his second and third in command also tripped into the same boat.

OK "Economical with the truth"

Imagine your current position at a 70 degree angle and moving. sheds a whole different light on it. Not just a OOOPS tripped up anymore is it ?

Just to add - its a miracle rhey launched boats at all at a 60degree list - ourside the design spec. Boats on the high side - impossibe. on the low side they would be at 60 degrees to normal and almost underneath the ships vertical sides. Lets speculate he was supervising the people loading the boat and the dhip takes a sudden list. If you fell off the ship you'd likely fall into the boat. To get back on board would requre a vertical jump of several feet - impossible If the ship is on its way to a 70 degree list unless you immediately free the boat and motor it out from under the ship youd be crushed under it anyway. As I said its a miracle so many people survived

I alsospeculate that it could have a raft he 'fell' into - meaning the report is probably erroneous. rafts more launchable in an extreme list situation

Not totally defending the guy - he has stuff to answer obvously.

But the number of people who demonstrably know nothing burt are happy to join the herd in a good sink the slipper session is well = business ad usual on bigfooty

Theres enough to suggest to me theres lots of speculation by reporters. Another factor is depressed italy is looking for heros and villains right now. apparently they are selling T-shirts basically hanging the guy out to dry.

Who buys this shit ?

The truth will out eventually

For once the Hun is carrying better information,

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/wo...-costa-concordia/story-e6frf7lf-1226247798131

The coast guard is being hailed for the way he threatened the captain.

But step pack from the story, for a coast guard to order a 52 year old man to scale ladders when he admits he has trained air sea rescue people on the ship is prpbably anger talking, not practical.

Theres reports an officer is liable for 12 years jail for abqndoning ship alone. - how quaint. they dont get paid enough for that.

Mind you the captain looks really bad if he did continue drinking while it was happening - plenty for him to answer for really

I told u cats, this lothario needs not be questioned by carabinieri but he needs to be swabbed for syphilis

#2_the_captain's_quarters_4_drinks

THE captain of the Costa Concordia was apparently drinking and dining with a young blonde Moldovan woman just before his vessel ran aground off Giglio Island.
Domnica Cemortan, a cruise ship passenger rep and former dancer, was also reported to have been on the bridge with Captain Francesco Schettino on the night of the disaster. Several passengers claimed they saw Schettino and a woman resembling Ms Cemortan sharing a decanter of wine shortly before the disaster.

I said wait for the truth to filter out and it now looks even worse for the captain

Given that discipline broke down its extremely remarkable that so many people - over 4000 survived this tragedy

Most of it was perverse fortune that, because the captain changed the route, they were within swimming distance to the shore if they could get on deck

When the captain of the ill fated Costa Concordia was asked if he knew where he was going he replied "off course"

*********************

so the captain of the costa concordia will soon be in the dock.
... more than can be said for his ship.

***************************

I'd hate to be the captain of the Costa Concordia. Boy! Oh! Boy! is he going to be in deep water ... which paradoxically, where he should have ****ing been in the first place.

Don't underestimate the importance of hair colour where nautical tragedies are concerned.

'The laughing blonde at the captain's table'

"The captain of the Costa Concordia was apparently drinking and dining with a young blonde woman just before his vessel ran aground."

You know what they say about women and ships, goes doubly so for blondes.

Loose tips sink ships?
