OK help me pick the next racing game I'm going to play. I remember when these games were console sellers and some of the most anticipated games. Outside of the Forza Horizon series though (which I love but is hardly a racing sim) After playing every GT and Forza to death I haven't really got into a racing game for a few years.

Looking around there's Forza 7, GT Sport, Assetto Corza Ultimate Edition or Project Cars 2 that I'm interrested in peoples opinions of. On the hardcore scale from what I've read it's Assetto Corza Ultimate Edition then Project Cars 2 then the other two. Forza and GT Sport basically made some average design decisions so before I dive in I thought I'd see what people have played.

I'll be playing it on either a PS4 or Xbox One S so not worried about the fanboi opinions on which console is best. Single player only and happy to try a more hardcore sim but it doesn't have to be the main reason why. Just wondering which game people have played and enjoyed the most.

out of the titles you mention if you're after the most authentic product it's an assetto corsa vs project cars 2 question (since you reference "generation" i presume you're not interested in rFactor and other, older PC options).

i haven't played AC so can't comment on it but if you go with PCARS2 i seriously recommend you have a one-X or Pro. PC2 is a performance hog and uses one thread exclusively for modelling its tyre physics. there's also some really distracting aliasing in PC2. based on the complaints on SMS' forums the perfomance can be pretty ordinary on the base consoles.

if you're after solo v AI racing then PC2 is the better choice because the AI options in AC are fairly limited. however, if you're keen on multiplayer competition then AC is probably the better option.

Cheers. That's exactly the kind of info I was after. Thanks!

I was leaning towards giving PC2 a go so that might be the way to go.

I agree with Long Live HFC. You should definitely try Project Cars 2. In addition, you can try to play Forza Motorsport, but i can't call it a realistic simulator.

Yeah, Forza just seems a bit of the same old as well. Keen to try something new.

Pretty much got a console so I could play F1 2020. Only half downloaded (no internet atm so just hotspotting off my phone) but am able to play Albert Park.

Cannot wait to create start a career on 'my team'... I've gone down a rabbit hole of sim racing, following a few on Facebook Gaming - it's a strange turn of events for me.

My time around Albert Park leaves a lot to be desired at this stage, but I will get there.
