Although there are questions on our form and our year in general there are quite a few positives.(besides for young players progression)
  • We have won 4 out of our last 5 games
  • We are the only team in the lague that has won more games than it has lost, from teams ahead of us. We have played 7 games against the teams on top of us We have won 4 of those and lost 3 with a % of 102
  • We have done this all mostly without waite, walker, warnock.
  • All the teams around us are falling apart
Feel free to add to these.

Well our input and output on the ground are down but the regulator is being a bit harsh on JR imo :D

it's the 10 year anniversary where we were in a similar predicement, and look how that turned out
when hot we can beat anyone
we have players that can turn games apart.
finals this year is a learning experience, the longer we last the more our team will learn
this'll be the year when people say, do you remember when murphy and gibbs were 21 and 20 and now they are 23 and 24 with 3 premierships to add to their resume

Essendon won't win another game this year.

Something called Bloodstained Bomber sent me a colourful PM after Essendon put us to the sword. I copped it sweet largely because I had nothing. Today it has mail with suggestions on taking leave in September. :thumbsu:

Richard Hadley was the one getting belted on Friday night at the bottom of the packs and not Judd :thumbsu:
Was very happy with his game!

Also Robbo with the pressure. Love it.
That interception in the last quarter won us the game.

I find it hard to see any negatives in our current situation. We're winning games even playing well well below out capabilities. There is a ridiculous amount of upside in this team and if we fire in the finals anything could happen. Our development is way ahead of schedule and we have an outside chance of achieving the only success indicator i.e. a flag. We are in fact perfectly positioned. The low media expectations are playing into our hands perfectly as well. :)

The bizarre cross wind gusts in the fourth Q confined only to the forward 50m arc at the Southern end was what won us the game.

With a bit more freaky weather at the right end and the right time, we could win the flag.:D

Are you talking for this year or our direction in general?

For this year, the main negative is, what if we have run our race, and the form (despite winning) of the last month is replicated against better (i.e. finals) sides....ala Pies game.

If we are talking overall then yes........its all about the upside, and some finals experience. :thumbsu:

Hadley was good and bad.
Did take all the knocks and I was very happy overall as well.

Robbo chased like there was no tomorrow.
That last quarter, straight off the bench intercept was comical and productive

He definitely was good and bad.
But he's never going to be Sam Mitchell, by playing him we know what we're getting. And his bits of bad will hopefully bring us a lot of good from our other mids. His hardness, along with Robbo was exactly what i felt we needed after the Pies game. And although we didnt play that well, Ratts, well done with selection. (Stevo also was good).

Are you talking for this year or our direction in general?....

Both. Not denying we're playing crap footy right now. BUT we have demonstrated what we can do in several big games earlier in the year. Apart from maybe Geelong, we could easily beat any other team in the top-8. No reason why we can't get to that level and go beyond in the finals. Just gotta play tough now, and work our way through this slump. I actually hope we get to play the Saints in the finals. The Blues erratic style of footy does worry them, and we should have beaten them last time. :)

Some players I thought were finished have given us something eg Hoops Stevo and Carrots. I guess being part of a competitive team can lift your spirits.

I might be the last person you'd expect to contribute to a thread like this but here goes...
  • We will play finals for the first time in 2001
  • We have a positive win/loss record
  • We have one of the best midfields in the AFL
  • We've played over 35 players on our list, everyone who has played well at VFL level has been given at least one game in the AFL to come in and do a job
  • Our backline has taken a huge step forwad even though it has been unsettled for most of the year, Bower and Jamison now both look like 10 year players
  • Kreuzer has elite skills for a big man and will be a superstar regardless of if he is played in the ruck or up forward
  • Walker, Warnock and Waite have been injured most of the year and will be guns in 2010
  • Several new players have taken big steps forward and broken into our best 22 on a regular basis (eg. Johnson, Armfield, Joseph)
  • Over 1/2 of our list is still a lot of improvement left in them
  • We finally have depth and picking our best 22 is no longer an easy task. People only get a game if they deserve one and the MC drops players who arent up to scratch
  • We will improve our list further during trade week and in the draft
  • We are still a VERY young side

In terms of winning 4 out of our last 5, we have beaten Fremantle,
Richmond,Sydney and North and we have been thrashed by Essendon and
Collingwood, l would suggest we have been lucky to have played such average teams as our form over the past six games has been quite ordinary.

The real positive is the improvement in Murphy,Kruezer,Joseph and our defence has improved considering Waite and more recently Jamison has been missing.

On a negative note, l do not see we have had sufficent improvement in our 2nd tier players and our attack still lacks some real class to support Fev, we still require a more even team and this is critical to become a top 4 side

I'll leave my judgement on Hoops till after this Friday night. He tends to play well against the bottom teams but the top dogs always expose him.

Obviously winning 4 out of the last 5 while playing poorly is a bonus. People have mentioned that the wins were against the bottom sides but remember we hadnt beaten north for a few years and hadn't beaten the swans since 2001.

As with most young teams your form is going to flucuate and I am hopeful that our form will pick up again over the enxt few weeks and we dont wimper into 8th spot and cop a flogging 1st week of the finals
