Surely Richmond has to offer him a year contract. The past month he has been one of our best players - we need him to stay on.

Agreed, yet another great game from Cuz. Great to see him play with such passion. His excitement both after kicking his goal when his team-mates came to him and after the final siren was awesome. He's a massive part of this young group, both in terms of onfield leadership and inspiration.

Sounds like the doco goes to air this year she's all over for cuz. The afl bench rules will play a role. I'd be betting on him not going on. Sadly cause clearly he can still play and still has lots to offer our young list.

Yes, he may not turn a game like he used to in his prime, and he has lost some of his running ability, but he brings his team-mates into the play like no other on our list. He is so good at holding the ball long enough to draw the opposition in order to free up a running team-mate, his blocking around the contest is also invaluable, for the likes of Cotchy, Martin, etc. It's no coincidence that Juddy now looks less like the player that he was WC now he's at Carlton, he just doesn't get the support around the contest that he did from Cuz and Kerr, now he just constantly looks stuffed as he's having to do all of the bullocking work himself.
If Cuz can continue to contribute in the manner that he has in second half of this year (now that he has some match fitness) and remain injury free, he must play on with us. Our young kids can learn so much about positioning at the contest and generally playing support roles for one another when they don't have the ball by watching Cuz's lead. He is a true team player that is loving his time with us and I for one hope that he is still there next year.

Vehemently disagree.

There is room for a champion coming off the bench. Essendon did it with Tim Watson in 93 and Watson is not in the class of Cousins. And at the level he is playing at, starting on the bench wont be a given anyway.

And as for the doco... Didn't we have a clause that it couldn't be released until after he'd finished playing at Richmond. Pretty simple equation to put to him: You want to play next year? - then doco doesn't get aired until October 2011.

One more year should see everyone happy, though don't be surprised if our last game of the year happens to be against West Coast at Subi.

with so many players that we can delist
mcmahon,hislop,thomson,polo and the retirement of simmons we still will need to delist 1-2 more players of the list !!

i would love to see cuz go around again next year but unless we trade 2-3 players which i hope we do 1 of moore,mguane,thursty

i cant see it happening but i hope the club offer him a coaching type of role
just to keep his presence at the club to work with the younger boys.

Can add Polak to that list also, apparently got knocked out again playing in the 2s and didn't wake up for 5 minutes.

Give him the contract now. Did anyone see him walking the boundary line with Dustin, it was in the last quarter I think. Looked like he was mentoring him and Dustin was just soaking it up. I think the TV commentators referred to them as master and apprentice or protege, and that is why he deserves another year.

Bingo. After yesterday, they should be printing the contracts this afternoon.

Perfect summation - we all know he won't be a part of Richmond's next finals campaign (whenever that is). Cousins value is in what he can teach the kids, IMHO there is plenty to be gained from another year showing them the ropes on the field.

BTW - long time reader and thought I'd finally join the conversation. Very entertaining guys.

Yes, saw that part. Surely RFC will keep Cousins on for another year.
