Cuz

Out of your team there are 7 players of similair size to Cuz that i would put below cuz in the pecking order. They are : Morton, Taylor, Nason, King, Tambling, Jackson, Collins.

Your arguement is that they all deserve a spot ahead of him based on development. But purely on being a better player they are all behind him right now.
Will that still be the case come the start of next season? Remember there is 6 months between our season ending this year and the start of the 2011 season, in other words a lot can change over a summer.

A lot can happen in 12 months.
Addressing some of those names, I would suggest the gap between Cousins and the likes of Tambling, Morton and King has widened in the last 12 months, in Cuz's favour!!!
Wouldn't think any of them have made significant ground!

Great player, bloke and team man. A keeper, 8 will probably go 5 for sure I hope we keep him, He helps our young guys and he believes in them and he wants to stay, come and see him at training. Will our list manager see him as being part of the shorterm future. I believe yes and yes he is getting tired. I told him that if he has a full pre-season that he could improve even more and he seemed happy, remember that he didnt have a full pre-season.

Drawing a very very long bow there RT. Alot can happen over summer yes. In that "alot" you also need to factor in second year blues, for the likes of Nason and Taylor, allbeit in Taylor's case, he aint really had a first year yet. Then you have to factor in the gap that exists between Cuz and the group now. Not to mention that all of the group aint gunna fit the formula are they?
Cutting to the chase, I would be happy if those 7 got to being half as good as the Cuz is now, any more and its a bonus. What the argument is that if it happens and a group of 7 developers emerge over a pre season as better options, pigs can fly and blue moon rising stuff, but if it does happen, what is so bad as to having the Cuz hot on their heels for a spot?
I really dont get any of the arguments about if there are players ahead of him, because if that happens, i can guarantee you that a pro like the Cuz will strive to get ahead of them and that creates what? yes competition for spots and that equates to what? yep, we dont hear that line we have been hearing for the last decade, he is in because there aint anyone better to replace him with. That equates to? Yes you guessed it. ;)

The arguement that he is not in our best 22 ( which i strongly disagree with)therefore should not get a new contract is flawed).

If it could be said he is no in our top 30 then yes he should not get a contract. As Cogga says fighting for spots in the team is a bloody good thing.

Provided he keeps on track with current form and doesn't get injured, I hope he stays on next year.

He's progressively got better as the seasons gone on if you look at averages. It's good having him around the club.

I don't know about anyone else, but I still haven't got used to having Ben Cousins at the Richmond Football Club.

Give him a full pre-season and see how he goes.. Remember his pre-season was disrupted this year..

Agree rfcta, I'll never be used to it.
I want him to love the club as much as he loved the Eagles, and if it is his thing, i'd love to move him into a coaching role.
This will NEVER happen.

I think you will find he said stay around football - not the club, He was aluding to a media career IMO.

Actually he said specifically that he'd like to stay involved with Richmond.

"I've really enjoyed settling in at Richmond, it's been a tough go on-field, but I'd like to in a playing capacity see them get out of that tough period for as long as I can,'' he said.

"Then if it was possible I'd like to stay around the club and help them out.''

It did with Greg Dear. If i thought a bit harder I could probably think of other players too.

If he plays another season and it is a good, passionate season, he will still only love Richmond about half as much as he loved the eagles.

Him retiring doesn't help anyone, he wants to play footy, he can't hide the fact that if he isn't to play next season he WILL be extremely disappointed. He knows he is still capable as he has shown the past few months.

Byron2008 raised a good point, give him a pre-season and he will be fitter than he is now, his pace will not slow as much as critics are saying and his kicking is getting better and better the more he plays and settles his legs in.

Well there you i go - i came out of the interview on the couch with a different idea.

ive been saying it since all the delistings at the end of last yr we are virtually devoid of leadership and experience on the field.
while that may have eased just a little bit with the likes of deledio jackson etc etc all getting another season behind them with foley to hopefully get a full season there is only really newman and cuz left in the leadership group.

we will have just 5 players tuck tambling newman deledio and cousins with 100 games or more to their name. tambling and tuck are doing all they can just to keep their spots let alone lead others.at least tuck is a big body and can bring others into the game with his inside work.

we will have just another 9 with 50 games or more to their names. they are edwards, foley, jackson, king, mcguane, moore, morton riewoldt, white. the majority are either deficient or battling to get a game, 3 or 4 of them should either be traded or delisted.

imo i think cuz should go around again its just my opinion but a trade for an experienced player would not hurt as well.

Some people really are bad at rating players. He's easily in the tigers top ten players and i'd even say he's top 5.

Easily.

I'm loving that Cuz is constantly in the young player's ears. Seeing footage in the changing rooms of him standing infront of players like Lids, Dusty, Cotch and even Newman once really tells us something.

Despite his age he still has lots of pace, he can gut run nearly all day and the way he is constantly handing off to the younger guys and giving them advice is ****ing brilliant.

There have been 3-4 articles from different players saying they want Cousins in the team so I doubt he is falling and dragging anybody down with him

In terms of his pace as well... He was never blisteringly fast in the first pace.. He had pace, but he was never up there with a Davey or something (ie, lightning quick)..

Cousins' forte was gut running and just continually working opponents to the ground (his results in beep tests are the stuff of legend), I think he's still capable of this as well...
