Cyberlink PowerDirector - Advice Required

I have a couple of issues/questions relating to video editing and specifically the PowerDirector series from Cyberlink.

My new desktop came preloaded with Powerdirector 8. I've been using this to collate my numerous photos/videos from my recent US trip in the hope of turning them into a nice/professional looking DVD. I've had a couple of small practice runs that seem to work really well except for one small problem - the Root Menu that I've designed that should be the first thing to appear upon loading the DVD, instead doesn't appear until all chapters I've created finish playing?

So question 1 is, does anyone know why this is happening or is there anyone who has experienced the same thing? If anyone can help with this it would be greatly appreciated!!??

Question 2 is - what are peoples opionions on the best video edition program available? I really like what I am using and am likely to upgrade to the latest version which is PowerDirector 9 so I can go with more HD stuff but before I do I'd love to know if there's a better option out there. Most websites I read seem to rate PowerDirector 9 as the best one to use.

Thoughts anyone? And thanks in advance.

Re: Cyberlink PowerDirector - Advice Required

Not that I really have any clue, but some DVDs launch straight to playing the media rather than the menu. Perhaps there is a setting for this?

I haven't used Powerdirector since early 2000s and back then it was pretty bare bones. I'm actually quite surprised at how good Windows Movie Maker is now. Of course, it's probably not a patch on Adobe Premiere and such, but for "free" software, its actually damn good (although could be better... ie. more audio tracks). But for basic needs, quite good. Anyway, end my tangent ramblings...
