Really dissapointing by the animals on the weekend. Drifter, I would love to know what the mood of the players was afterwards, and what approach you took after the game.

Great weekend of D2 footy with both SMD teams recording big wins and my $50 multi paying big $$$$$$$.

Round 17: Harper = $368.20 Jono = $0
Season: Harper = $1233.15 Jono = $295.00

Round 18 promises to be huge with all teams still playing for keeps whether it be to avoid relegation, a finals spot and in the case of the top 2, the minor premiership and a double chance. The place to be this week is definitely Thomas Carroll reserve as the Jocs and Seagulls slug it out for a finals spot in the early game then the 1's battle for the right to remain in D2 for 2008.

Can we call it a draw with Aquinas this week and then head out to Doveton to watch these games?

Saw the game Saturday. Animals very hard at the ball but have lack of key position players. They pushed GE but didn't have the desparation GE had. Will find it tough against Werribee. Saturday game GE/Banule should be a top game with fourth spot up for grabs. Expect GE will be too good.

Its my understanding that the finals are being played at Elsternwick Park for the two semis on the Saturday and Sunday. Then the prelim and the GF are at Cheltenham. A couple of road trips for the boys from Aquinas. :thumbsu:

The Leos boys are obviously down and just about out after the game.

GE won the 1st & 4th and we won the 2nd and 3rd but obviously still got rolled.

It has been a rough year - havent had home losses in a long time if not ever to rivals like Aquinas and GE so not the best feeling around the club.

We did lead GE in the 4th qtr though so if they are flying as it appears and we are out on our feet as it appears then maybe the gap can be turned around quickly.

Game played in great spirits - save for GE goal umpire cheating on a decision in the 4th qtr - Ryan Clarke's miss "sorry goal".

Disappointing when even the GE players said it was a point and some cheat of a goal umpire decides to let his bias effect the game.

No chance GE for finals - margin too great in % to make up (lets be serious) Banyule or Leos to get 4th still.

Hopefully the GE boys are up still for this week as we need you to beat Banyule!!:thumbsu:

Hopefully its goodbye Bentleigh. The big question is, who do you want to join them St Johns or Willie. St Johns for me only just. Any comments.

Funny how the draw worked out with 1v2, 3v4, 5v6 playing this week

IMO Bentleigh are certainly not bottom 2 this year - Willy (with a horror injury stretch and JOCS for mine)

But its not looking great for Black Mamba & Co

It turned out to be a great game on Saturday drifter. GE were no way near their best of the last few weeks, maybe for a 10 min patch in the first quater. St Leos showed some fight in the last 3 quaters but lost their way late in the last quater. If either side happend to make the finals and played like they did on the weekend i'm afraid they will only be in one final.

The Clark shot for goal was interesting, I've spoken to a few people regarding it and it seems that some people thought it was in and others out, depending on where they were on the ground! The goal ump still swears black and blue that it was in though, and I guess thats what you have to go with.

I think it is a 150 point turn around required so unless Banyule are really bad this week or Werribee are on song, it could be curtains for GE in 2007.

GE cant make the finals, too much ground to make up. If they keep a similar side next year they will be right up there i'd imagine.

Does anyone think that Leos or Banyule can make an influence in the finals or will the tigers account for either team week 1 of finals.

Agree - it was a tight contest but nothing for the top 3 to worry about.

Enough On Leos - What is the Aquinas - SMD approach this week

Full steam ahead or take it easy?????

Tough game to pick - SMD at home versus the premiership favourites

On form the Tigers by plenty Saints

Only seen Werribee once this year and they had an off day so hard to judge though

Top 2 look set given the % break over Werribee unless SMD pull out a 111 pt home win again

I think this time of the year, 1 week out from finals you go with your best side. No need to create selection drams. Whoever wins this week will have and edge for finals game. We at SMD are desperate to win as Aquinas pulled our pants down last time.

What a cheek. The St Leos goal umpire cheated 3 times in the reserves and the umpire was asked to remove him. This same guy fronted again to do the firsts. The GE goal umpire is a club stalwart who by no means should be classified by the way you guys have. Nothing would be said about your guy if you didn't start this crap. Yours is a very ordinary club with very ordinary supporters who made some very ordinary comments about the ethnicicity of some of our players. etc. etc .etc

Agree Saints - 1 week out and play your best side

Most teams know the opposition styles by now too.

Very interesting game - are SMD near full strength??

Your kidding aren't you? I can tell you, I was in the crowd, and at no stage was there one comment made. If you have genuine concerns, please go through the proper channels, and go through the ammos, or at least our club, and it will be dealt with - that is if what you are saying is accurate. What about the abuse the bloke who got carried off was copping. Those in glass houses ...

Close to full strength Drifter. More importantly the form of a few guys who have played between the 1's and 2's this year was impressive. Tiny Tim has cemented his spot in the 1's now with a brilliant display at CHF and Crawf who dominated the ruck in the 2's for 3 quarters then had a quick rest and went out and gave Bentleighs #2 a bath at CHB in the 1's.

While on the topic of the Bentleigh #2, cheap shots from behind when your team is down by 12 goals is just bad footy mate, something to think about while you learn how to kick further than 35 metres.

no doubt both sides will be fielding the strongest sides available come saturday. for an observer it should be interesting to see how things unfold, as it is highly likely these two sides will be squaring off again in a week's time.

both sides will be keen to get the psychological advantage of a win, but may also be wary of going off a week too soon? i'm really only speculating. should be a great contest nonetheless. also looking forward to seeing the A-game of your mob Harps, hopefully they won't be suffering from their self-inflicted 'curse of the white shorts'.

Further more, great to see so many GE players and supporters hanging around for a drink afterwards - there was not one there for preso's. I think most clubs in the comp would be pretty happy with our behaviour and attendance at after much functions. You knob.

Unfortunately I wasn't behind the goals at this stage, so I cant comment but both the goal umpire and field umpire thought it was a goal.

And before you comment about goal umpires I would have a look at yours. At our home game he cheated in both games and again in the 2s on the weekend.

Ha Tiny Tim N - I think I know who you mean here!

Certainly good for another option with that sort of size

I left at 6.00 and there was still plenty of our blokes there. How long do you want us to hang around for presentations. We also had a function starting at 7.30, but made sure most of the players came in for a drink.

GE had an after match function on that night, so that may of been the reason for the light show after the match.

I think that if you ask others around the grades you will find that GE are usually one of the better teams to stick around after the game for a beer.
