Time to start keeping track of their performances, to see if Carlton picked up the better Thomas. Keeping in mind Dale Thomas is just about 27, while Josh is 22. Dale is costing Carlton 700k a year, while Josh would be on about 150k.

Round 11

Josh Thomas:
18 kicks
11 handballs
29 disposals
5 tackles
7 inside 50's
3 goals 2 behinds

Dale Thomas:
10 kicks
9 handballs
19 disposals
4 tackles
4 inside 50's
0 goals 1 behind

Just seems so fair that their respective, comparative careers to date are all based on R11, 2014.

This has sirens wailing…

Well due to injuries to both of them, it has been quite difficult to get fair comparisons. I think by the end of this season we'll have a definitive answer.

Bruised eyelashes and torn heartstrings are considered to be "injuries" now..!?

Why don't we compare their careers from when Josh made his debut then. (start of 2013)

Dale Thomas averages (2013-14)
Kicks 11.3, Handballs 7.7, Disposals 19.0, Tackles 3.1, Goals 0.3

Josh Thomas averages (2013-14)
Kicks 10.2, Handballs 8.5, Disposals 18.7, Tackles 3.2, Goals 0.6

Not bad for someone who made his debut last year vs someone who is in the prime of their career and earning $700k+.

Lol Carltank.

OP statement is did Carlton take the right Thomas. Comparison should thus be from start of this season, with weighting for upside/age and also financial cost.

Start of this season? Done.

Dale Thomas: Kicks 10.8, Handballs 6.8, Disposals 17.6, Tackles 3.7, Goals 0.4
Josh Thomas: Kicks 9.2, Handballs 7.8, Disposals 17.0, Tackles 3.2, Goals 0.6

And this is also with Josh being the sub in the Richmond game and didn't come on until late in the 3rd quarter

So let's remove that game and re-calculate:
Josh Thomas Kicks 11.0, Handballs 8.3, Disposals 19.3, Tackles 3.8, Goals 0.8

Comprehensive advantage in every stat now :thumbsu:

Lol Carltank.

Josh Thomas>Dale Thomas by the length of the Flemington straight.

Dai$y gets to have kick to kick with his pretend Dad before the game, while JT gets his kicks during the game in a team that's not full of useless hacks :thumbsu:

Also forgetting another important stat being Clangers

Dale Thomas: Kicks 10.8, Handballs 6.8, Disposals 17.6, Tackles 3.7, Goals 0.4, Clangers 2.0
Josh Thomas: Kicks 11.0, Handballs 8.3, Disposals 19.3, Tackles 3.8, Goals 0.8, Clangers 0.8

So factoring in the negative impact of the clanger possessions, then the real stats are:

Dale Thomas: Kicks 10.8, Handballs 6.8, Disposals 15.6, Tackles 3.7, Goals 0.4
Josh Thomas: Kicks 11.0, Handballs 8.3, Disposals 18.5, Tackles 3.8, Goals 0.8

On a value for money basis DT $800K JT $200K (Salary / (av statistic X 23 games)), this is the final assessment:
Dale Thomas: $2,230 per disposal, $9,400 per tackle, $86,857 per goal
Josh Thomas: $470 per disposal, $2,288 per tackle, $10,870 per goal
