My issue with Dalziell has always been his total lack of accountability for his opponent. I don't care how many possessions he gets; his opponent tends to be more damaging.

I played with dalziell when i was younger and at intraclubs and such. Unless he miraculously improved he is never going to be anymore than a depth player. He can run all day but has very poor disposal skills.

The highest DE% in our team last year.

Lecras also had one of the lowest. Thats why DE% is a pretty waste of time statistic. Glass in previous years has also had one of if not the highest disposal efficiency for the team. We all know he's not great with the ball in hands.

Sumich nominated the proven ball-winner as one of six players - alongside Scott Selwood, Chris Masten, Gerrick Weedon, Shannon Hurn and Callum Wilson - setting the standard so far in pre-season training.

Would be awesome if Weedon got some games in 2011. I kinda imagined he'd need 2 years before he found his feet.

Also, no surprise with Scooter and Masten doing well. Mids usually step up around year 3 or 4.

I hate it when the coaches come out and say crap like this.
He is underrated because he is crap, and them saying this means they cant see it.....
FFS, Why cant they just admit they Screwed the pooch on this 1.

Depth player at best, we have better options and would only be taking a spot from Stevens, Smith etc.

Technically, he's under-rated because they were expecting less than he accomplished, which begs the queston, "how crap were they expecting him to be, when they signed him up?"

Seriously though, he went OK in a shocking team where decent perfomances (such as those provided by Hams and Strijk) stood out like the proverbial.

didn't impress me a lot this year but i'm glad to hear wilson is having a big pre-season. he's a promising unit and i'd like to see him given the opportunity to step up this year.

Slow, average disposal and decision making, Weak over head and a little soft.

Agreed.

Thats what the coaches (and everyone else) saw and caused him to be dropped once or twice ...

However, it appears, they then examined his stats, and decided he was underrated. I mean thats basically what Suma says....

This is one of those "my eyes don't deceive me" + "lies, damned lies and statistics" things .... from memory, Dalziell had one decent game and numerous very very ordinary ones. He has zero hurt factor and makes slow and average decisions. Sure his DE was high but that sometimes is a simple factor of lots and lots of 5m sideways handballs or lots and lots of 15 to 20m passes to blokes in space, but of no advantage to the team ...

A lower DE but with really high hurt factor is much more desirable from ones outside wingmen who are often in space forward of the play ...

If you want a bloke that runs all day, gets it and is, at best, non-damaging either way ... then he isnt shocking ...

All that article says to me is the coaches thought he was crap but after reviewing everyones stats his werent as bad as first thought. The rest of the team was rubbish this year so it wouldnt be hard to get better stats.

I always thought Dalziell was good throughout the season and went on record numerous times about this. I was absolutely pissed both times he was dropped as he was offering exactly what we needed. An outside option who can hit a target. Who cares if he wasn't as accountable as some of the others, not all players need to be taggers even though just about every man and dog was given a job like this in 2010.

too many critical time around HFF where he had to go and he didnt.

too many other times he just chipped the ball to the closest guy, not necessarily to the best scoring option, so vital to have a quick, clever thinker around there.

a poor man's strijk

Statistics are often bullshit.

A brilliant side step which confuses the opposition is worth 10 accurate 25 meter passes to guys in the open.

Nice little sideways passes - the opposition loves!!! because it gives them a breather, and nice and gentle and pretty imagery on top of that during the breather.

THIS!

Be as much of a ball winner as you want with greater disposal efficiency than a garbo, that isn't half as damaging as a quick, clever thinker.
Didak wouldnt rack up half the touches but only needs a handful.

Be careful GO EAGLES, you may be accused of having said something sensible :thumbsu:
