an unfortunate by-product of the $75m media rights the AFL negotiate every 5 years is that tools like Barrett (and there are many others) get paid big money to state the absolutely bleeding obvious - a team lost so let's bag them, put the coach under the pump etc, this team won so they are now flag favourites etc. Where is the insight? The look at the bigger picture of how a team is developing. Very few exceptions out there in media land. Gerard Healy writes quite well as does Tim Lane, Jake Niall and that's about it. The rest are totally addicted (as many on BF) to the weekly rollercoaster results fluctuations. As a group the football media are a bigger joke than any of the 16 clubs they scrutinise on a weekly basis.

My source informs me that it has something to do wright not returning his calls and be evasive. He has has a beef with a few board members who told him in no uncerrtain terms what they think of him at a functions one night.
