Damien Barrett suggested that Eddie should put a date on his retirement. He listed a few reasons, including comparisons with Jeff Kennett.

I understand that Mr. Barrett is a follower of the North Melbourne football club. If he wants, he can become a member of the Collingwood football club and implement his democratic right to vote in elections.

Other than that, he can continue to lurk around dark corners like a cockroach and try to connect Eddie to some form of corruption or inappropriate behaviour. Until he does that, I really couldnt give a flying ...... what he thinks.

I find it curious that such an opinion piece just so happened to come out at the same time as all the hoo haa surrounding Malthouse. The opinion would have far more credibility IMO if it wasn't so darn predictable.

As a full AFL member I don't have voting rights (that I'm aware of lol) but I for one hope that Ed is around for at least the next 5 years if he so chooses.

I disagree with Barrett but I wouldn't start talking about elections. If he'd been a member over the last decade he wouldn't have voted once.

Considering where Eddie dragged us out of, he can stay for as long as he pleases.

Or at least until Luke Ball wants to be President :D

Go die in a hole somewhere, Barrett.

Four Square Nerd who Chases Ambulances.

Don't listen to this Tool. Just makes Crap up 90% of the Time and Tries to stir Trouble Up.

Just like his Boss Hutchy

What's more alarming is that the AFL allowed this to be published on the site, when they're supposed to be the governing body, not opinionated (there was no disclaimer in the story when I first 'glanced').

*cough* conflict of interest *uncough*

Ball will be player for another five years and then take over from Bucks as coach in about 2022....and coach for ten years....so wont be available for Presidency until about 2033.

So Eddie has a while to run yet!

It's funny what you read but it all comes back too whihc person a journo dislikes more. If it's Eddie you get Barretts article, if you dislike Malthouse, it's Mark Robinson article.

Personally, I follow the club. Ed wants what's best for the club. From his comments, I don't believe MM has that view anymore. I'm in Eds corner and glad he stuck out for the current management of the club even though some comments were taken out of context.

So because Eddie arranged a succession plan for a coach, he should arrange one for himself. Because Jeff Kennett adopted a particular model that sees the maximum term for a President at Hawthorn be 6 years, Collingwood should adopt a similar one.

Flawed logic and quite disappointing from a sports writer I respect.

I think Barrett is more writing in hope and trying to get readers. What he says is a joke, and if he truly believes what he wrote then he doesn't understand what Eddie has done and is doing for the club. Collingwood is one of, if not the best run club Australia wide, and a big reason is because of Eddie. A succession plan for a president? Why? It's not like the team or club would benefit from it. The club doesn't need fresh ideas or a boost off field.

Damien Barrett said so, so apparently Collingwood should march to the beat of his drum.

I have objected to Mr Barrett for some time, when he comes onto the footy show I turn off.

Unfortunatley he is one of a growing number in the media who have forgotten they are there to report the facts, not create them.

He is so obessessed with what HE WANTS for a story and during interviews he carries on and on demanding people answer HIM.

Cannot stand this guy.

The comparison with Kennett is a load of rubbish, Hawthorn's constitution only allow a president to stand for 6 years maximum, Kennett was made to stand down from his presidency because of this.. Just saying.
(I don't just know this off the top of my head, was forced to do a uni assignment recently on the Hawks legal structure/management and came across this, I think its a terrible idea to put a maximum term of how long a president can stand for in your constitution, imagine if we were forced to boot Eddie out 8 years ago? where would we be now?!)

Doesn't there have to be someone to challenge?

I don't think it is Eddie's fault that the rank and file as so pleased with the Board, that no one has felt a need to challenge?

Surely you're not advocating a "spill" just so some people get a vote when clearly the vast majority don't?

Imbecile, he and Carro obviously went to the same school, they were never taught what the word 'fact' means.
