White was talked about this time last year then signed 2 yrs for Port. He and Big nose are marked as the Port future Key Forwards, there is no way known that they would move him on.
and no way the Cats would pick him up...we have enough slow developing forwards at the moment.

Why do we have a bad reputation in terms of trading? Sorry for not accepting a Neon Leon Davis trade for Nick Stevens. We shoulda been smarter...

I don't think Geelong would want another b-grade tall. I'd say they'll flick Haynes and Mccarthy this year and both are similar to White.

We should of got him last year, I rate him better than Playfair myself. As for compensation, maybe a 2nd rounder, otherwise from our list, Matthew Spencer, considering Port need young key defenders, but they've got Gilham and Chaplin as well. Maybe a Charlie Gardner could be thrown into the mix.

Williams aims to lift midfield

MIDFIELDERS, midfielders and more midfielders. That is dethroned premier Port Adelaide's focus for trade week and the national draft.

After overseeing one of the AFL's best on-ball brigades from 2001-04, Power coach Mark Williams has conceded his on-ball stocks need improving if Port is to return to the top four.

"You would suspect that we'd be looking at midfielders," Williams said of his trade/draft plan. In the past two years, the Power has lost key on-ballers Nick Stevens (Carlton), Josh Carr and Jarrad Schofield (Fremantle) and Damien Hardwick (retired) while its best finals player in its premiership season, Roger James, also will not be at Alberton next year after announcing his retirement.

There also is doubt over the future of Byron Pickett, who is unhappy with the hefty pay cut he has been asked to take.

Williams said the Power had begun to look at its long-term midfield stocks last year - hence the drafting of tough Sturt teenager Adam Thomson.

Williams has not ruled out trading for a quality on-baller in the exchange period, which starts on October 3.

"I'm sure there will be some of both," he said when asked if his main focus was on the draft or trade period.

While Williams is desperate to secure some quality young players - which could be secured with the top 10 picks in the draft - he ruled out sacrificing any players he wanted to keep. Having finished sixth, Port's first draft pick is at No. 14.

"The odds and history show that if you have picks in the top 10 you have a fair chance of getting a great, long-term, 200-game player," Williams said.

"So it would be nice to be able to trade down but to do that you have to trade away some classy players and our classy players, we're keeping."

So that rules out Charlie Gardner IMO as he's a forward & Chocco wants midfielders.
