One of the most under-rated players going around.

People blow there loads over how good they think Flintoff was as an allrounder, but facts are Vettori has a very similar record right now, and will finish with a better record, and alot more tests for his county.

Anybody else rate him right up there? Just scored nother ton this test after a 99, last test.

Doesn't seem to be picking up a lot of wickets lately, but yes, is killing it with the bat.

True, but has over 300 and the same average as Flintoff.

Im only using Flintoff because up to his retirement he was rated as probably the best all-rounder in world cricket, while Vettori is usually overlooked.

Kallis is obviously a rung higher than both, although bowling wise maybe not.

Great all round cricketer. There's probably no one more valuable to their team than Vettori, he virtually carries NZ at the moment. He's been their best bowler for years and is now probably close to their best batsman, as well as being a very good captain.

He would have to be close to being the leading all rounder in world cricket at the moment too. Kallis is probably still ahead of him but his best days are behind him and Vettori may well overtake him in the next year or two.

Hes captain/coach for NZ practicly, absolute gun, would have scored alot more then 134 if not for akmals screamer at short cover

love watching him bowl, not the most attractive batsman to watch but got to admire the way he digs in for his side.

DV has no chance of overtaking Kallis as the leading all-rounder unless his average with the ball drops to below 25 or his avg with the bat goes out to mid 50's. In other words, Kallis will remain the best all-rounder until he retires.

Shane Bond says hi

The same Bond that has played one test in about 5 years?

Using that logic Bradman could still be classified as our best batsman.

Still played a fair amount of cricket and is unquestionably their best bowler if fit, hell he's one of the best quicks in the world when fit, as was seen in his match against pakistan the other week.

Shane Bond says 'bye' more than 'hi' these days. He may be NZ's best bowler when fit but he spends more time in rehab than on the field lately. Vettori is definitely their next best bowler and has the advantage of playing consistently.

I agree, great player.

Would he make the current world XI?

He made the World XI back in 2005 for the Super Series against Australia. Murali was the first choice spinner then and probably still would be now but if you're playing two spinners then Vettori would probably be next in line, especially when you consider what he can offer batting wise.

Flintoff was always terminally overrated. He doesn't even pay the litmus test for an all rounder - he averages less with the bat than with the ball! Mitchell Johnson qualifies the same level all rounder and will probably end up with a similiar amount of centuries (5) with considerably more 5 wicket hauls. Vettori and Kallis are the two top all rounders and its interesting that both of them have seen their bowling drop off over the last couple of years.

Vettori is better than Flintoff, Flintoff has just had more recognition cos he plays for the Poms, but I reckon Flintoff was one of the more overrated cricketers I've seen, don't get me wrong at his best he was up with best in the world but his stats weren't that great, Vettori has been consistent for a long time now, the pitches in NZ don't really suit his bowling but he is prob the one cricketer in the world I would take from any other side due to his consistency with both bat and ball

In recent times (since 2004, I'd say), he's become a genuine allrounder. For disturbingly long periods, he's been head-and-shoulders above most of the batting lineup.

I do think that he was a better bowler when he first started, before injury crept in through overwork (he's also had to bowl on some pretty unresponsive pitches). His average these days is propped up a lot by Bangladesh. Nonetheless, even when he doesn't take wickets, he's adept at building up pressure.

He's also an astute captain and a reasonable fielder.
