God bless you Rendell. Brad Ebert was just awful last night. Slow, poor decision maker, terrible kick. An Ebert has rarely contributed more to Port winning a game of football.

Recruiters have to cop a lot (including the bleating of the Ebert family in this case), but Dangerfield is going to be about 1000000 better than Ebert. Mind you I'm not sure Nick Gill doesn't have him covered as well

Rucci was quick to question the club when the decision was made, saying as I recall "dangerfield better be good". Im waiting for Rucci to write an article saying Rendell was right but won't be holding my breath.

I was critical also moreso of the fact that Dangerfield was a victorian and Ebert looked to be a good local pick which we overlooked, but after seeing Ebert I am glad the club took Danger. I agree with the OP that Ebert looks to be a slowish HBF type player and those types of players are a dime a dozen whereas the line breaking midfielders are as rare as hen's teeth.

Rucci will never come out and write that, lets not forget that Rucci was trying to stop Dangerfield from playing for Geelong in the TAC comp. He was pulling out precedents and phoning the AFL "for clarification" in the hope that the AFL would rule he couldnt play.

Ebert was the 'safe' selection. Prior to Rendell we had quite a few 'safe' selections - we didn't need anymore.

'Safe' selections play 'safe' football which unfortunately we have seen does not win finals footy.

Dangerfield could become one of the competition's great players, and while Ebert will probably play 100 or maybe even 200 games, he will never be remembered as a 'great' player.

When Ebert was streaming into the forward 50 with 3 minutes to go, eagles down by 8 points, I said "Watch this Ebert will **** it up" and right on cue he lost track of his running bounce and the ball went over the boundary line :D

Biff "Safe' selections play 'safe' football which unfortunately we have seen does not win finals footy. "

What the hell does this mean??????

What 'safe' selections have we had that play 'safe' football.
Surely the coach dictates what style of football we play.

Who currently on our list prior to Rendell becoming our recruiter was a safe selection. How does a player play safe football?

I agree with the point of the Ebert selection because he was a South Australian and the go home factor of taking a Victorian like Dangerfield is always in the back of a teams mind.
I don't agree with this logic myself because too many good footballers would get by passed if you adhered to this policy. Was this partly the reason that swayed Melbourne to take Watts before Naitanui?

Just not clear on this whole statement could you please clarify.

I think it time we stop the Ebert Dangerfield comparisons. It more about the Dangerfield Rioli comparisons now.

What if we feel Dangerfield is a better player than young Brad Ebert, is that a reason to denigrate young Ebert, I've watched Ebert quite a few times and he goes alright, certainly lacks nothing in the courage department and I'd be quite happy to have him on our list. A quick perusal of his 2009 stats shows Ebert stacks up pretty well against Patrick. After 2 matches this year Ebert is the West Coast's equal leading kick getter [32], leading in marks taken [13], 4th Tackles [9], 2nd overall in the West Coasts player rating only to Adam Selwood.......HE GOES ALRIGHT!!!!

Thought the exact same thing after seeing him run on the wing but messing up the bounce and recovering only for the Port player to smother the kick.

I laughed.

Doesn't matter how many kicks you're getting if each one goes out on the full, directly to an opponent or wide of your intended target

Maybe the extra tackles are from when he fumbles the ball and has to go and clean up his mess?

Raw stats don't tell the story. Champion Data is a much better indicator of how a player performs, and Eberts CD ranking was abysmal last night. I don't like using stats in an argument, but SC points (Champion Data points) are a compelling argument due to the formula it uses.

The better players all average more SC points than DT points, as it includes disposal efficiency. Ebert's SC avg over his career is quite a bit lower than his DT. This means his disposal is a weak point. He still has time to fix this though, as its only his 3rd year. But he needs to do it soon

Danger>>>Otten>>>Martin>>>>Petrenko>>>>Armstrong/Cook/Ebert!
Great work by Rendell.

A little concerned about our 2008 draftees though at the moment.
But time will tell.

They're some tall boys.

Davis is going to be very special, I like Smack, just have to find a possy for him.

Sloane's been very good, for a skinny 3rd rounder. Will Young debuting.

HENDO.

haha, this, and last years, drafts need time due to the height factor.

Nice to see some balance, he is a damn good player, yes he had a bad one last night. But he has already proven himself to be better than a dime a dozen player, and will only get better. As with most midfield type players, he may take another 3-4 years to really show how good he is. Would have him on our list anyday.

Who would he displace from our best 22 right now?

I don't want to be considered a troll on your board, but have you been watching the Crows play this season?

Ebert had a poor night last night - in fact, our whole team was horrible and would have lost by 6-8 goals against an average side - but its harsh to base the comparison on 1 game. He'll be fine.

I agree 100%. I have never liked the look of Ebert since I saw him play. Too slow and kicking sucks. Decent mark for his size though.

I have been watching the Crows play this year. Was at the game alst week and watching now. But you don't replace shit with shit. We have not had our best 22 on the park yet this year

At close to 3/4 time in today's Sydney game I would suggest Ebert would be in front of quite a few actually!!!

Our best 22 is not on the park today

Best 22 right now, your words!!!!

Reckon he'd match up better RIGHT NOW than most on McGlynn????

No, he is not a defender. Right now, he might get a game, but he would probably be 3rd or 4th dropped. IF we had our best 22, he wouldn't get close

As i said earlier, i wouldn't replace shit with shit. Cos thats what we are. And thats what his disposal is right now

Congratulations Lads

On bypassing Bradley Ebert. Shocking, last nights game should finally prove to even the blindest WC supporter that this guy isn't worthy of an AFL game.

Rendell copped alot of shit, but gee he knew what he was doing. Be happy you lot (and i know you are) for we are ****ing spewing we got this dud with a 1st rounder in a draft we couldnt afford to stuff up.
