Ok so Dangerfield is well down on perfomance from last year and doesn't seem to be moving as well. Now the popular opinion seems to be that this is due to a combination of a drop in form of Sauce, more opposition attention and most alarmingly he's carrying some kind of knee injury. The question I pose is why is he carrying this knee injury? In my opinion he should be rested to get it right so he can get back to replicating last years form and get back to dominating the clearances and contested footy. Discuss.

It depends what his injury is or if he indeed has one. Players play through niggles all the time as well as 'soreness'. If there is no harm done by him playing then an 80% Danger is better than no Danger at all and if a rest isn't going to benefit him then why do it?

Having no idea as to the extent of the injury, I can only assume if Danger is out there, then he's good to go.

Losing him to an injury that couldve otherwise been avoided with some time off, would be... (yeah I dont want to contemplate that scenario).

I haven't got a problem with resting him, but if he's picked, I expect Danger to be Danger.

It's concerning coz he certainly hasn't been this year.

Well thats what I'm saying surely if it's injured then a rest is what is required? Not sure what injury wouldn't heal without a rest! We need a 100% Danger!

Knowing what I think I know about P.Dangerfield, he would be relishing the opportunity in Tex's absence to stand up as an elite among elites for the remainder of this season, and really want to pull the boys across the line with him.

The players are going to look to him even more for leadership, on field brilliance and strength.

He will have extra responsibility on his shoulders and he won't mind this at all.

Lets hope so!

he is getting tagged massively & heavily (getting thumped, bumped, whacked)

This is the response i'm expecting accross the field to be honest. If it hasnt hit home this week that everyone will need to lift then it never will.

Regarding Dangerfield's injury. It comes down to balancing what we lose from him playing now vs how soon he'd be back to 100%. I tend to think if it's 2 or 3 weeks rest required, then rest him. but if thats not going to help he has to keep playing.

Be fair, he was very good against the Dogs and Lions. Not so great against the Blues and Dons. From what I remember he was just 'ok' against Port.

And most of our players are too gutless to do anything about it. Notice its always Danger getting laid out and no one really doing anything of not to help him out. Two occasions this season stick out when Merrett nailed him at the Gabba and stood over him whilst Walker gave him a bit of a shove but nothing significant and when that **** Westhoff bumped him over after he got a tackle on him and players like Mackay, Douglas, Reilley, Vince, Jaensch all probably saw it yet do nothing. This are just to incidents but I see it happen all the time with our team where we get bullied and take it up the ass.

C'mon. All of the excuses have to stop.

He is injured. He is getting tagged without support. His ruckman is down on form. We need a new midfield coach.

Enough is enough. He is down on form and needs to lift. Thats the end of it.

You disagreed with that post? You're saying you won't miss Taylor Walker, or you don't believe we played in a prelim last year?
Taylor Walker injury is a blessing in disguise. We weren't in enough form to win a flag this year. Gives us a chance to blood a youngster to be alongside Walker next year and have a real tilt for 2014.

I'm going to miss Walker's incredible ability this season :(

I still find it hard to believe we were a kick away from a GF. Having that big a opportunity doesn't happen often.

As a handy aside to eliminating any remaining credibility you may have had, that post also gave me a nice opportunity to demonstrate how the 'disagree' icon should be used.

Blessing in disguise my ass. What if he does it again next year will that be one too?

Wait, was that directed at Jono??? Sorry, got confused.

Yeah, he's going on a disagree spree to anyone that is centre left.

So, you're saying we were in good enough form to win a flag this year? An extra forward along side Walker wouldn't help us at a 2014 flag?

This. :thumbsu:

He gets hit off the ball by a multitude of players running into him, bumping him etc. The idea is to physically hurt or drain him and prevent him getting to the ball. Often there is a free kick that should be paid to Danger, which he rarely gets.

I don't know who's idea it is - whether it's his or the coach's - but at most boundary throw-ins or ball ups, Danger is now standing off the play with his tagger rather than ignoring it as he did last year when he was almost untaggable.

My personal belief is that he's carrying a rib(s) injury from when he got cleaned up big-time in one of the early games - the 2nd of the year I think. While that doesn't stop him going into the thick of it, I think he's trying to play a bit more outside footy while he's carrying this injury.

He'll be back to his best soon IMO.

So you're saying we should have put the cue in the rack in 97 and 98 when we were 2-3 at the end of 5 rounds as well? Maybe tried for success in '99 instead after Modra went down?

He's been going in 3rd man up a few times as well, to try and shake the tagger. I think he's carrying damage from when Tex landed on him in the NAB cup.
