i think cross and west have worked really well together this year. Rohde would never really use cross and west together at the same time, he would rotate them off the bench more but through eade they are both complementing each other. Previously if west was tagged out or wasn't having an impact, we would really struggle to get the ball, having someone like cross working along side him just makes it a lot easier for us at stoppages and in getting the ball to guys like cooney.
He's still got plenty of improvement left in him and he's the type of person who will endeavour to get that out of himself.

What classifies as winning the ball from a stoppage?
Does one have to get the kick or is a handball to an open man from under the pack classified as winning the ball?
If its the latter than Cross has won his first stoppage after 1min 30sec in the 1st quarter. With 18:40 left on the clock Cross grabbed the ball from a boundary throw-in and handballed it to an open Street, who fluffed the kick. I might add that Cross beat a Hawks player to do it aswell.
Edit: Cross update, just did the first option of what a clearance is with 6:15 remaining on the clock in the 1st quarter.

Cross has been very good in the clearances and has the added height advantage over many midfielders hence being able to outmark them in a 50/50 contest.
His kicking whilst it has improved will never be his strong point. Remember the kick for goal from 40m on the weekend that went out on the full?
He has caught the opposition off guard, even Eade himself has been surprised with him.
Cross will get more attention in the future, that is when the true test will come.

Definately the later, imho....At least this is the 'standard' that West has been judged on for years, surely?

Next possession was a precision pass to Guido, who kicked a goal.
3.00 left 3rd: Crumbs a marking contest, handballs 15 metres straight to Guido who kicked a point.
0.10 left:Handball out of congestion to Birss, who kicks forward.
18.00 left in 4th: Handball straight to Spida in the centre. (1 TO)
17.20: Left foot kick under extreme pressure hits Ray 40 metres away on the chest.
14.40: Surrounded by 3 Hawks, handballs out to West who gets a free kick.
13.30: Ruck tap straight to West who kicks forward.
8.00: Outmarks Mitchell in a one-on-one contest.
6.10: Handball under extreme pressure to Cooney.
5.04: Got kick out of centre to a one-on-one contest at CHF.
