Daniel Gilmore - punching bag?

While looking around your board, I see that many Freo supporters seem to really have it in for Daniel Gilmore. Is he that bad a player? Why does he cop so much flak?

Does everyone feel that way?

I remember him stepping up a few years back when Sandi and Longmuir were out injured. It was when we were looking for a replacement for Jeff White so I was interested in young high-possession ruckmen in his mould who might be tradeable due to opportunity starvation as a result a youngish senior ruckman with a long career ahead of him (Sandilands).

Is there no hope for Gilmore?

i loved gilmore when he was getting a game. since he got the knock to the head he has been somewhat out of sorts, seemed to be the only player we had who was willing to pump the ball inside fifty without pissin around wiht 2 meter handballs

Sandi is so dominant at the moment that he isn't really getting a chance. Last year both Gilmore and Kepler got a fair bit of game time, but this year the coaches seemed to have preferred Michael Johnson as backup ruck.

Good decision I say. If Sandi stays fit, we won't be seeing Gilmore in the ruck again.

You must not forgive our entire backline for the last 5-7 years then.

He's been injured with the whole headache thing and he hasn't bounced back. But we need to cut him some slack. When playing well (which he isn't now) he's a useful player to have on our list.

Gilmore had 10 posessions. At least half were direct turnovers, that's being genorous. His goal was the last kicked of the game and came from a hanball receive, he was on the goal line.

As I said before, and from the whispers I have heard since. If he fails again, South Freo will seek permission to play him in the ressies. They just have too many good players running around their club.

Colts, Ressies and League won all grades again for the second week in succession. Some real pressure coming from a few Ressies players as well.

Anyway, Peter Bell and Jeff Farmer say g'day (remember them?)... as does that fella Paul Duffield. He goes alright.

Then there's that Roger Hayden bloke - never got a chance until he came to Souths and was developed and nurtured correctly. Now look at him... lucky we know how to spot talent, or else he'd forever be a gummies reject probably playing 2nd grade ammos somewhere...

Have come late to this thread. Gilmore has been given heaps 'round here lately and fair enough I guess, but at his absolute best he was a handy utility player for us - kind of like a very poor man's Goodes type player. He could play in most positions, was tallish, reasonably quick in the open field and had a good kick on him - but as already said, he's not half the player he once was. If he's still under contract I actually hope we trade him if can we get anything for him which is unlikely or release him if he's not and another club with room pick him up (I thought his contract is 'til 2010 though??).

Maybe a change of scenery and a 'reset' of the head might get him back up to AFLish level again - I can't see anybody taking a punt on him though.
