Just thinking that with Harris asking for a trade we could possibly address our need for another midfielder. At his best he is a fantastic clearance player and maybe Eade could get the best out of him.

Now I understand a KPF is the major priority this trading period but realistically finding a good one will be hard, so if we fail to pick one up we need to address other areas of our team that are a still a little thin.

Thoughts? What do you think would be a fair trade? Ray could be used in a deal but the Kangaroos would probably want a little more than that.

We gave West a nudge so we could start blooding Ward, Reid, Addison, Higgins in the midfield.

No need for Harris, especially considering we would have to use a bargaining chip(Ray, 2nd rounder, ect ect) to get him.

You're assuming that we will be able to find a suitable trade for Ray to address our specific needs for a KPF? Fair enough, but if not we will still need to offload him and I would much prefer to use him in a trade for a player of fairly reasonable quality instead of a Boyle etc.

As for our middle, I think it was shown up to be a little thin and inneffective in the latter part of the year, particularly when Cooney was well held. Harris would provide another strong body and clearance option. I get the need to blood Ried, Ward and Higgo, but none of these players offer what Harris does, yet.

Wouldn't be surprised if Rocket agreed with you - he likes inside midfielders and Harris has a bit of that plus clean hands. Fantasia may not agree.

Oh I can tell you now that Harris would be productive in 2009 then Ward but the more games Ward gets under his belt the better he'll be for it. And let's face it, we have bigger plans for Ward then Harris will ever achieve.

Are we planning for injuries or a winning future? Harris won't win us a flag in 09 but Ward might help in '10/11 with development next year.

No more hole plugging - develop what we have.

Granted that Boyd and Cross tend not to punish teams enough when they get the chance and Harris wouldn't add a great deal in that department but his skill level isn't too bad.

He would add a genuinely strong body though, which is an area we are still lacking in and I think that would outweigh issues with his skill level.

I would be pretty suspicious about Harris considering it is known Donald McDonald says they are on the lookout for a midfielder, yet they are parting company with him a midfielder.

We also have plenty of midfielders, hence Farren likely to go.

I would steer wide of Harris.

Cousins is a different story being a brownlow medalist and renowned elite player.

Harris is definitely nowhere near elite.

Rubbish answer. Brett Guerra wasn't going to win Port Adelaide or St Kilda a premiership so they off loaded him. He did ok with the Hawks though didn't he? You still haven't told me why you think Harris is a dud.

Harris turns 27 half way through next season so he's hardly over the hill. Callan Ward may turn out to be a great player for the Dogs, he definitely has the tools but to say getting Harris will risk putting back Wards progress is emotive crap.

I think the Prelim Final really exposed our clearance issues and Harris would excell here.

Having said that, I agree with Acker that it's a bit smelly. 26 YO mid offloaded with no injury history. I think his issues are between the ears in terms of application which is why he's out of favour with Laidley. His inconsistency would support this.

He wasn't "off-loaded". He asked to be traded.

He had an ordinary year by his standards and finished 7th in the B+F. 10th for tackles and 17th for clearances in the comp, playing stuff all minutes each week and with no chop out as a inside midfielder. Good kick, outstanding handball skills.

Why is it going to ruin Wards progress? Because he has to work harder to get in the team.. Were just expecting these young guys to walk in because they need 'experience' ..Have a look at Geelong they have depth upon Depth Lets get Harris and make it harder for Callan Ward and other guys to get in the team there only going to be 19 next year and Callan will be only 18... it will only make them better and will make us win a premiership...
