Alot of criticism of us chasing this bloke, but considering he can play forward, ruck, mid and back, gives us fantastic options and variety.
Plays forward he can take the pressure off Mihocek and Johnson, and crash the packs for our small forwards by bringing the ball to ground. He goes back, the big body helps Howe, Moore and Murphy, or plays ruck he can relieve Cameron or Cox and plays that around the ground role very well.
In this years finals campaign for Brisbane, he had two very good finals, and against Richmond probably got Brisbane over the line when he moved into the ruck.
I like him at the Pies, and really hope he shows why we got him to the Pies in '23, and sticks it up a few critics too....

With us Getting Frampton who is seen as a KPD I doubt McStay play much down back
 
Nice size and looks perfect in B&W ( as all do ) reckon he will flourish with us and at the G. Some of the highlights reminds me of why always admired him from a distance.

We are slowly building depth, height, strength & pace !

We suddenly look a lot more potent up forward which is something we've definitely needed to address after struggling to kick 100 points this year. He may not be the best forward but he definitely makes us better.

At the very worst, he'll make a contest and bring the ball to ground, giving the opportunity for our crumbers to hit the scoreboard.

That has been the theme since GW took over and Fly has intensified it - get players that make our list better without disrupting our top picks.

I like his goal kicking accuracy

But I always worry we will bring that down lol
 
Still shocked we gave him 5 years, we didn't need to do that. Reminds me of the Mayne deal, in so far as, he was always coming here, yet we went overboard in the contract(in Mayne's case it was money not contract length like McStay).

He's a solid AFL player, good field kick, I don't see us using him as a deep forward. He's never kicked 30 goals in a season. Mihocek will remain the better deep option.

Decent ruck/fwd option, look, on a 3 year deal I would have been far more positive about the move.

Certainly wish him the best and let's hope we get the best of him!

How do you know we didn’t need to give him 5 years and that he was always coming here? That extra year may have saved us up to $100k pa

Sadly I remember another left-footer with equally bad kicking who also played in the black & white. Had the yips so bad he turned from AA forward to AA-level defender ...
