windows said:Watt is the fastest bloke at the Kangas and did well in the GF sprint. And he is footy slow. Anticipation, mobility and speed around corners is what these guys DON'T have.
still waiting for your answer mojoe ...how fast is mal michael ???mojo31 said:Spot on. Livingston tested unbeliavable at draft camp but you cant measure how slow he is to react and the effect of injuries, body changes due to weights and so on.
Goddard and Wells ran the same time at draft camp over 20m. Now 3 years later all the weight increases that Goddard has put on from weights means he is no even in the same ball park.
Still in a straight line over a reasonable distance it would not be so bad but when it comer to break away speed, agility, changing direction, anticipation and all the things in football that matter in that regard Wells has him covered by a long long way.
Merrett might very well be okay in a straight line when he knows when to start running but on a football field where he has to react and change direction and so on he is as slow as it comes.

Carlton needs a power forward, Merrett is a power forward.
I really wonder if we're looking at the same player when words like 'lumbering' are used.
Blues_Man said:any reason why Merret can't be groomed as a backman ???![]()
OZBomb said:It's pretty clear that we're not going to agree on Merrett. I understand your points but don't really agree with them. I think there's some good tools there that justify a trade for a 20 or 36 based on this guy's potential and the potential of the guys who will be available at 20 or 36.
Trent Potential is really good, but I'm not sure he's a "Power Forward" yet either. He's more like a 'Jarrad Waite type' at the moment. Not to say he couldn't become one as I think he will be Adelaide's focal point in two years time.
Quinten Lynch is a Power forward... just not a very good one... lol.
Mojo what where your thoughts on Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls at the Championships? I know he'll probably go to a WA club before he's on our radar, but he seemed to be a really good reader of the play albeit a very skinny athletic type that might be a good pick-up mid draft to develop for 3 or so years.
mojo31 said:Jarred Oakley-Nicholls is bottom aged and a tall midfielder. Plenty of room for improvement physically in him. Really come on as the season went on and cracked it for senior football in the WAFL for East Perth.
I cant say I remember him from the U18 carnival. I was taking notice of Swallow, Kennedy, Clark and Ryder and Jetta and Benjamin.
Cant say he was even on my radar.
Just had a look at FootyDraft and he is projected at 12 now after not even being in the top 50 a while ago.
OZBomb said:Yeah I just read that as well. I don't think Melbourne needs another 'outside' midfielder however.
Jetta would be close to a top 10 pick next year. Was impressed by him.
mojo31 said:Jetta would be.
Selwood would be.
Gumbleton would be.
Lachlan Hansen would be.
Jack Riewdolt would be.
did I miss anyone?
Apart from Gibbs and a few others I have not seen play as well.... Mitch Thorp.....
Agghhhhhhh wrong draft.
Can you imagine pick 1 and 4 next year?
It would be like picking 2 out of Judd/Ball/Hodge in 2001 and adding in Riewoldt and Kossy to the mix.
Outside player if I ever saw one and needs to hit the weights before he'd get a game.A good footballer though and just needs to eat nothing but protein for a year.mojo31 said:Lachlan Hansen would be.

Why? I've only seen him once and can't judge him on any other performance. He is even described on the AFL website as an outside player and I said he was a good footballer.Kicks a mile off 1 step and accurately but is a stick and would be smashed at AFL level in a key position.mojo31 said:Oh man that was funny. Absolutely smashed everyone at CHB including a few big names in the TAC towrds the end of the year. Seen him play 3 times and talk about a gun.
Didn't Mitch Clark smash everyone in an under-age competition?mojo31 said:Just turned 17 and 195cms already. Might end up being 2 meters tall and a legitimate KPP.

He is an outside player from what I've seen even if he isn't a squib and that run on Saturday when he took off looking to receive the ball showed this.mojo31 said:Hansen does not have Mitch Clark's squib attitude. Of course he is a stick he just turned 17 two months ago. What are you expecting. Kennedy is 18 months older than him as a comparison.

Some of those guys who are as young as Hansen are already built like brick shiessenhousens.
Good comparison to liken to him Riewoldt but he isn't a Jonathon Brown type.mojo31 said:Some are built and wont get bigger. Hansen is skinny but holds his own already in the 1 on 1s when I have seen him play. Another 10 kgs and he will be Riewdolt but much taller.

He sounds great!
