What's the word on Daniel O'Keefe? Has he been doing well in the ressies? Still injured? Will we keep him on for next year? How much more longer should we persist with him?

I am not sure of his contract situation but i presume that he will be off contract at the end of the year. This is because when a player gets drafted they receive a 2 year contract.

Due to the fact that we have a number of promising players on our rookie list that are possible promotions Nick Smith, Brendon Murphy and O'Dwyer; I think that O'Keefe has potential but he has large injury concerns. I think that he will most likely get de-listed and then redrafted as a rookie.

I dont think that the swans will give up on him but i think there are more deserved youngsters that should be on the swans seniors list.

Saying that though it depends on how big a clean-out happens at the swans with respect to the older players retiring or getting delisted. If there is a mass exodus ie Micky, Mathews, everitt, barry, possibly crouch (not on current form) and then possible trades O'keefe might find himself extremely lucky and get another year on the senior list.

I agree that we should delist him then rookie him.He sounds like he has the dreaded OP and therefore would not have done much this year.It would be a shame not to get much out of this fairly high draft pick.

IMHO, both O'Keefe and O'Dwyer will go at season end. O'Keefe because
of his injury and lack of opportunity to show what he had at reserve
level. O'Dwyer I feel didn't handle his opportunity in the seniors and to me
looked like a kangaroo caught in a spotlight in his game at the SCG.

I thought O'Dwyer showed promise in the AFL this year, he has a long way to go but we shouldn't give up on him yet.I dont know if O'Dwyer has done enough to get promoted at the end if the year, but he will definately at worst get another year on our rookie list.

As to O'keefe read my earlier post.

Bit harsh on the young bloke.

At least give him a chance to show something

He has had surgery and is rehabilitating very successfully. They will extend his contract and you will see a new DOK next season. He will play firsts in 09.

Hindsight is indeed a wonderful thing, but we dont really have it until time passes. His career isn't behind him just yet. Its a bit early to be writing him off. Granted, some of these guys have a good jump on him (Thomas is the stand out, and I love the look of Robbie Gray) but I thought I saw something from the boy in the preseason.

In a draft laden with tall youngsters, the Swans surprised slightly by taking Geelong Falcons midfielder Daniel O'Keefe (no relation to star forward Ryan) with their first choice (No.15). O'Keefe was chosen on a "best available player" basis, with the need to restock their key-position and ruck divisions addressed later with Daniel Currie (200cm), Peter Faulks (192cm) and Jesse White (196cm
