Now that DJ has gone to Hawthorn, somebody has to replace him. I think Sam Hunt is a perfect choice, ok he hasn't played seniors for a year but has shown alot when he did play seniors back 01, and his form last year for Bendigo coming back from injury was pretty good. With natural development i put him in front of Hennenman who is just to inconsistent. Also with playing Hunt in defence it could release Fletcher further up the ground.
What do you all think?

There's no need to replace Jacobs. He was a half back flanker, we've already got about 8 of those in our best 22.

On a side note, Sheedy was quite adamant at the AGM last night about playing Mercuri in the backline next year, so i'd expect he will play either Welsh or McVeigh further down the ground.

I hope not. Welsh could become a star HBF and McVeigh has FINALLY found a niche for himself and played some pretty darn good footy. Sheedy should leave the core of the backline alone. The 6th spot - that Jacobs quite often was - yeah let Mercuri have a crack. We need to get something out of him, however if he does his typical dizzy let my opponent run into a prime forward position and be 50m from then...............

good hopefully more pace in the middle.

Rama, ALvey reynolds, winderlich, McVeigh those 5 in the middle could match most sides 5 fastest midfielders.

Agreed.

We have half a dozen guys who can step into Dannys shoes straight away.

I am happy for Danny. He was a good player for us and did well for the club and played proud while he was here.

Ultimately he never got a solid position and was always thrown around. He will be a good KPP for the hawks.

So will McPhee move in as a permanent forward/wingman?
He had a great final series on the wing and I'd rather him play there than down back.

Also where will Rioli fit in this year? On a Half forward flank?
He also played some pretty effective games this year of the back flank so I guess it depends on the opposition.

Would like to see him rotate between Centre and Half forward. He just needs to be around the footy, he creates so much. Don't particularly like him as a defender though, but he's great when he plays midfield and sweeps across half back.

I think McPhee can replace Jacobs - i prefer McPhee down back anyway - is tall, tough and gives good run from half back.

Cannot imagine Mercs playing in defence, sure he looks great carrying the ball out of there, but can you imagine him on a small like Matera or Medhurst ? McVeigh and Welsh much better options.

I wont say no till i see it, but if they give him free-raine and allow him to play the Free man in the back line he could be incredibly creative. when u consider that Wellmen and Fletcher allready give many teams so many problems with their run off the backline add a little flair and it could work. The only major prob i can see is his ability to spoil as the 3rd man in a contest. But if he can hold up that side of it, then yeah give hima a go!

He was servicable if not more so, in 2001 but it will be interesting to see if such a long stint away from the firsts will effect him, we have just had a really well settled backline for the past 4-5 years so very few people have got a shot. And when they have its been players already in the team, like lucas.

Either way good luck to him, deserves the chance.

Are Sam Hunt and Aaron Henneman a chance to prove themselves, particularly with Fletcher out in round 1?

Looking forward to Hunt stepping up.... but Id be just as happy if Henno found himself a comfy spot on the Bendigo bench.
