Big Footy -

Danny Meyer

Details:
Club: Flagstaff Hill/Glenelg
DOB: 3 August 1986 Hgt: 183cm Wgt: 70kg
Position: Onballer/Forward
Natural Foot: Right

Honours:
South Australia 2004
All Australian 2004
National Draft Camp 2004

Strengths: Meyer is a classy wingman/forward who is a fantastic shot for goal. His set shot kicking is beautiful to watch, and he is pretty good on the run as well. Spent most of the carnival as a forward, but can play midfield, where he has clean hands and is very good overhead for his size. Moves well and can dispose on either foot.

Danny has a great leap on him for his size and can break a game open. He spent most of the year playing school footy with Sacred Heart in SA.

Weaknesses: Probably still needs to put on some weight, and I'm not sure what position he would play at AFL level.

Footydraft.com comment: Looks to be a solid investment with the right tools to make it as an AFL player

when i first saw the kid, i thought he would never have a chace playing afl at this size.... and also.... as sante pointed out he didnt seem to happy leaving his home state. but now, after what ive heard and ppl have written, he seems a hard at it kid! something to look forward to! i think he is shocked as sumbody has sed and is a lil shy about it all..... hopefully he turns to a great richmond player!..... im now sure he can do well! hope he hits the gym rcore! go tiges 2005!!!!!!!!

This is how Richmond supporters convince themselves that we are a genuine finals hope every year. Rumour.....conjecture......fact! ;)

I'm hoping we're bottom 4. If we can jag more high picks in next years draft, and get rid of some more dead wood, the future would then look quite bright indeed. If it wasn't for the priority pick, there'd be no Tambo.

Thats a ********e attitude champ.

Id rather us win as many games as possbile than get draft picks.

We cant afford another wooden spoon year. Apart from the financial losses. What few good players we have will leave the club for better pastures.

I was confident we would finish near the bottom last year despite the maniacs thinking we were a top 8 side like the PRE dolt Rosy. By round 4, I was confident a wooden spoon was on the way. Frawley was the worst coach ever.

I am very confident we will make the top 8 this year. We have a strong attacking list. Richo, brown, kraks, zantuck + draft picks +developing players. ie. morrison, schultz, gilmour etc.

Our defence still sucks.

Our midfield will get a big boost this year with draft picks and reserve development and an attacking game plan.

An attacking game plan suits our list. Thats a 100% improvement without any other changes. I think the other changes to the list will cement a top 8 spot. The rise in 95 was sudden. It will be again.

If we want to be a St Kilda / Geelong, like they are currenlty we would need one more season of good high draft picks. I want us to finsh as high as possbile and id rather us win games than get picks.

Realsitlcy however I see us 16th-10th, getting a few more kids next draft and really pushing hard for long term success 2006 onwards.

Plough is giving the likes of Roden, Morrison, Zanktuck etc. polly 1 season to come good.

From what i have heard Wisbey is wrong on Meyers pace. Meyer is sposed to be one of the fastest going around

He is trying to draw a distinction between acceleration and pace. Greg Tivendale for example is very quick, but takes a while to wind up the speed and hence you see those arcing runs behind the pack. In contrast Rodan is electric over the first few yards but can be run down over 60 metres.

Generally you want midfielders to be quick over the first 10 because it is rare that a guy gets a chance to go at full tilt for much more than that. That first 10 is the key bit into getting enough time to steady before kicking.

I don't have an opinion one way or another. None of us amateurs saw him in anything other than those 3 Championship games and that isn't really enough to make a judement on some of these finer points. I do know that Richmond were all over SA this year (like most clubs) and so would have a pretty good idea about him.
